Community Voices Heard (CVH) and Activista Happy Hour invite you to the Rockaway Shrimp and Crab Boil! 

 

Come out for a day of finger-licking New Orleans-style seafood, and beach-side collaboration to highlight CVH’s work in The Rockaways.

Where:The Low Tide Bar will be hosting the event at the Beach 97th St Concession, centrally located at Rockaway Beach. 

When: SUNDAY, August 10, 2014

Time: 2:00pm-6:00pm

 

****Master Chef Mike Ciardi will be holding down the boil, cooking up a spicy concoction of head-on shrimp, crab, corn, potatoes, garlic, and Andouille sausage. After realizing his deep passion for food during his undergraduate years in New Orleans, Mike enrolled at the French Culinary Institute and has since been cooking his way across Brooklyn in the kitchens of Marcey Brownstein and Radish.

CVH has been a key organization in launching Participatory Budgeting in The Rockaways, and 20 other city-council districts throughout NYC.  Participatory Budgeting gives real power to real people to decide how public money gets spent in their neighborhoods. CVH also is working with public housing residents in The Rockaways and elsewhere to organize to ensure that residents are treated with dignity and their needs get met.  You can see a report recently released by CVH and ally organizations about building a more resilient NYCHA post-Sandy here.

To get to the Low Tide Bar, take the A train towards Far Rockaway and get off at Broad Channel. Then take the shuttle to Beach 98th. The venue is just a few blocks off the train, and if you hit the ocean you've gone too far. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase at any of the other food vendors at the Beach 97th Street Concession. A mixture of hip-hop, NOLA-funk, and reggae will be playing on the beat box.
