India in movement…, Resistance in movement…, The Narmada River in movement…

[Those still living in the Narmada Valley in India, and those in solidarity with them, continue to resist the injustice of the Narmada project and its implementation.  Tomorrow, Wednesday, a demo in New Delhi to protest the gross injustice – and huge suffering - that is taking place in the valley because of the recent closure of Sardar Sarovar Dam gates :

Resist Illegal Submergence in Narmada Valley

10:00 am onwards August 21, 2019 @ Jantar Mantar, Delhi

The situation in the Narmada valley is critical. Two people have already died in flood related instances. Villages are getting flooded. Electricity is being cut. And authorities are hell bent on filling in the full reservoir level of 138.68 mts in the Sardar Sarovar Dam. Today the water level is 133 mts and water has reached homes and fields of people who are not supposed to be under the submergence level.

Not less than 32,000 families still reside in the 192 villages and one township of MP, and hundreds of Adivasi settlements in the hilly region of Satpuras & Vindhyas. These villages have thousands of houses, fertile farmland, shops, small industries, fisheries and cattle, as well as temples, mosques, and various cultural monuments, along with lakhs of trees. The rehabilitation as per the Supreme Court orders of 2000, 2005 and 2007, and the Narmada Tribunal Award is far from completed. To submerge the communities of Adivasis and other farmers, labourers, fisher people and their property are illegal, unjust and unethical.

With the demand that NO SUBMERGENCE WITHOUT COMPLETE R&R, hundreds of people from Narmada Valley are coming to Delhi to demand from Narmada Control Authority to deny sanction for completely filling the full reservoir until and avoid flooding of the whole valley.

Do join us at Jantar Mantar tomorrow August 21st from 10:00 am
