INVITATION

Movements Across India Organise Simultaneous Protests Against the Eviction of Forest Dwellers on 22 July 2019.

Join us in Delhi @ Jantar Mantar from 12:00 noon onwards

This is a call for action against the Supreme Court ruling of 13th February 2019 on eviction of millions of Adivasis and other traditional forest-dwelling communities. Simultaneous nationwide protests are being organized against the Eviction of Forest Dwellers on 22 July across the country. In Delhi a protest demonstration will be held at Jantar Mantar, 12:00 noon onwards.

The two-Day National Consultation of Land and Forest Rights Movements held in Delhi on 1st and 2nd July 2019, decided to hold programs and protest actions condemning the government actions, amendments to Forest Act on 22nd July at the village, block, district, and state level.

Chief Ministers of different States of the country have been written to seeking their intervention in favor of the Forest Rights Act and the Adivasis in the Supreme Court.

After the countrywide protests against Supreme Court ruling of 13th February 2019, the Supreme Court amended its ruling and stayed it till 10th July 2019. While on the 28th February 2019 the Supreme Court stayed its earlier order putting orders for eviction on hold, the forest department is yet pushing people out of their lands destroying their farm fields. Several such instances have been reported in many states since 13th February 2019. The recent killing in Sonbhadra, UP, a result of caste and land conflict will be on the rise if the rights over land and resources are not settled. The BJP Government is also proposing draconian amendments to the Indian Forest Act, 1927 to facilitate corporate loot and exploitation of the tribal people. All this will further vitiate the situation in the forests and snatch away the rights of the adivasis and forest dwellers.

Do join us for the protest tomorrow at Jantar Mantar.

In Solidarity,
Hannan Mollah, Medha Patkar, Jitendra Chaudhary, Roma, Ashok Choudhary, Ulka Mahajan, Atul Anjan, Prafulla Samantara, Brian Lobo, Dr. Sunilam, Sanjay Basu Malik, Gautam Bandopadhyay, Adv. Aradhna Bhargava, Dayamani Barla, Teesta Setalvad, Virendra Vidrohi, Suneet Chopra, Raghvendra, Vijoo Krishnan, Prem Singh, Satyavan, Anil Choudhary, Bhupinder Singh Rawat, Madhuresh Kumar, Ashok Shrimali, Krishna Prasad, Deep Singh Shekhawat, Sanjeev Kumar, Anil Varghese, and other representatives for Bhumi Adhikar Andolan and movements across the country.
