My question is very simple. I have seen many gateways for US UK ..etc
but not for the euro zone nor for France specifically.

Am I wrong ?

Any advice on the best practices in using the Active Merchant api for
an online shop that would reside in France and that would sell to
french customers would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Michel,
I've done 2 gateways that might interest you
1 - Chronopay (http://www.chronopay.com) - expensive rates, but they
do take euro customers very easily.
2 - Iridium (http://www.iridium.co.uk) - much better rates. I use this
now, backing onto a barclay's merchant account. They set it all up for
me and were very helpful. They have no problem taking continental
European customers (they are in the UK) and seem like the best bet
over here.

I have a branch on github that contains these 2 gateways (I've done
several pull requests but no one seems to want to pull them into the
main release).

Phil,

The patches pile up pretty quickly. Thanks for the reminder. I'll try
to get to them as soon as I can.

Thank you Phil for your answer. But if I follow you, the best solution
would be to write a entirely new gataway in order to fit my needs.

Actually, what I am suggesting is that you use either Chronopay or
Iridium (which I recommend highly). Iridium are great people and very
helpful. They can handle a French company no problem. We are a Spanish
company and had no issues opening up accounts with them.
