We are experiencing difficulty getting an answer to what should be an
easy answer. How do we get notified of updates to the
ActiveAdmissions software and how are those updates applied? We use
Colleague and ActiveCampus Portal and know how we are notified about
those updates and the process for implementation. The
ActiveAdmissions update process is still a mystery to us. I have
tried many avenues and not found anyone who could give us an answer.
I did get someone on their forums to contact me about getting
scheduled for an upgrade, but no answers. How do any of you get
notified of updates? We found about 2.1.5.54 because we had a
conference call with another college who aknowledged that their
version fixed a critical issue.

Thanks,
Drew Rennick

We only have Active Apply and we were notified by email to our Director that a new url was needed to be put in place for our credit card payments to work. Well, that url is for 2.x only and we are 1.9.
We didn't find that out until we found out it didn't work and placed an Answernet call in.

Most of the time we find out about upgrades due to new documents being
released for that upgrade. Finding the upgrade is another story, as
they are often not linked on their answernet. Since we're not 100%
live yet we just ask our project manager to point us to the file
update.

I've been trying for three weeks to find an answer to this. It looks
like the answer is they don't have any system in place to notify
clients about upgrades. Considering the number of bugs in their
software you would think they would want clients to upgrade when they
make fixes. It looks like once they cash the check they don't care
how your CMS works (or in their case, doesn't).

For an update on upgrades check out the thread on the Datatel
ActiveAdmissions forum. http://corpforum.datatel.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15745
Sometimes pointing out the obvious has positive effects.

I check out the forums all the time. It doesn't always have the updates.

Read the thread and you will see that they are finally putting a
process in place to automatically notify clients of updates. Whether
it will be effective or not is the remaining question.

I guess I spoke too soon. The download they promised in a week hasn't
materialized in a month. I even put in an answernet call for
resolution and not even a courtesy reply (other than automated).
Anyone else experiening poor customer service from Datatel?

Drew, it's so tempting to answer your question :)

Let's just say I know very few satisfied customers.

Maybe they're out there... I'll keep looking, hoping... my door is always open :D

Does lack of service count as poor service?

If so, yes...

Well, I jest somewhat -- I have gotten good service from AnswerNet.

All I got from Answernet is that they would get back to me. Wouldn't
it be nice if we could all ignore our clients like Datatel does?
