How are you managing your website contributers

After researching AnswerNet and this forum I discovered that it is not
possible to keep one set of users from the ability to edit another
sets pages. This, of course, makes the CMS practically unusable from
a security standpoint.

How are any of you managing your users for website content updating?
We need to make a decision on how to proceed. We have a very large
website and users need the ability to update their own content.

Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi Drew,

Yes, many of us have just discovered this as well. Datatel says it will
be fixed by the end of the year or early next year (*smirk*).

Most of the schools I've spoken too say they're not implementing the
whole site in the CMS, just the admissions portion right now. Many of
other CMSs for the whole site. Others are waiting on a patch.

Sorry that's not much help.

:) John

Well that wasn't very clear of me, eh? I meant to say, many schools are using other CMSs instead of the Active Admissions CMS for their whole site. We made the mistake of putting our whole new site in their CMS.

Yes, I feel your pain regarding the security issues with the CMS.

I have approached this issue by not telling the contributors they have
access anywhere else. When I train them, I point them only to their
areas. The system looks intimidating to most people, so they are eager
to just get to their area and do the work.

I gave contributors webmaster rights but not admin rights. Right now
if anyone needs to upload a file or make new pages I just do it for
them. This is minimal for the time being, but could grow. THEN we will
need more security. For those who HAVE to add their own pages and
files, I gave them full admin rights. This is only 2 people, and I did
explain to them they have more rights to the site and to please
respect that. What else can you do?

It's scary and frustrating to think how much money the college paid
for this sophisticated system that has such a puny security setup.
