Does anyone know how to make it so that when you view a news story's
detail page, it sets the title of the page to the title of the
article?

Right now, if you click on a news item, it goes to the details page
and shows the article, but the title of the page is always the same -
in our case, it reads "News Story Details".

Robert,

I think you need to modify the XSLT associated with the details page.  Your details page probably uses a "Content Item" control and clicking on the properties for that you should find an associated XSL Transform (website resource) file.  Once you've identified the right XSLT, you need to modify that to include the title of the story.

Keith,

I've been trying to figure out how to make what you're talking about
work, and I'm lost. It seems like what you're describing is including
the title on the page itself, via XSLT. What I am trying to do is
insert the article title into the <title></title> tags in the header
of the page, which is outside the article details XSLT.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding. Is there something I'm missing?

Hi Robert,

Yes, you're right I was talking about the title within the page. I haven't tried altering the page title (within HTML tags).  That sounds like a challenge.  Perhaps you can create a special template for your news story details page and combine that with some programming.  Here is a page describing something similar to what you want to do... http://www.beansoftware.com/asp.net-tutorials/page-title-meta-tags.aspx

Another crazy thought would be to create a special template that gives you an ability to put a "Content Item" gadget within <title></title> and then use XSLT that simply renders the page title.  You would still have your normal content item gadget and associated XSLT in the body of the page.

I could be way off base on those ideas but I thought I'd throw out some ideas just in case.

Let me know if you figure it out.

take care,
keith

Hi Everyone,

Lately, the Web Page Designer has been timing out every time I open it regardless of the page I open. I wonder if I have too many “Gadgets” in the toolbox? If so, does anyone know how to delete them?? It doesn’t look like I can do it from the toolbox itself.

Thanks,

John

I have good news for you, John. I just figured this out this morning.

After three weeks of getting the script time-out message and not being
able to delete gadgets or categories, I realized the problem.

I thought it was my computer, but it wasn't. I thought it was the CMS,
but it wasn't. The culprit: My account. It was fried because of the
gadgets.

I had to create a new account and then resaved only the minimal number
of gadgets. When you want to delete them, you should be able to right
click and see the "remove" option.

Good luck,

Hi John,

There is a known bug that as you save more and more gadgets the designer degrades in performance.  I usually keep no more than 3 saved at a time.  I learned this after a lot of aggravation too.  Fortunately, I brought it up with my solution consultant one day and learned about the known bug.  If you keep number of gadgets around 3 or less you should be fine.

take care,
keith
