Search Capability

Does anyone know if its possible to search within a specific content
type from the web front end? (i.e., allow website users to search news
stories)

Yes, you can.  In the page designer, choose the "Search Metadata Control" from the list of "Content" gadgets.  Choose the content type you want to search on by configuring the channel rule properties in the "Content List" section.  Also, you might try some things in the "Search Settings" section.  It works fairly well but it will work immeasurably better once Datatel adds the ability to sort content coming out of the channel -- right now we have to sort using XSLT and that takes too long for long sorts.  That also poses problems with paging.
