Hi all!

Recess is over, so it's time to up the pressure on our Members of Congress (MoCs). In case you need some motivation to Resist the current administration, check out this list of major not-normal happenings this week by Amy  .

Tips on effective communication with elected officials, see Chapter 4 Advocacy Tactics: Indivisible Guide: Local Advocacy Tactics that Work

1. Call your Senators to oppose Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State
Mike Pompeo is unfit to serve the United States as our Secretary of State. He espouses anti-Muslim bigotry (and clearly knows little to nothing about Islam), denies climate change, supports torture, and wants to destroy diplomacy with Iran. He is dangerous and a threat to our safety and security. Make sure your Senators know they will lose your vote if they vote to confirm Pompeo.

2. Help put a stop to Sinclair Broadcasting's propaganda
By now you've probably seen the video of Sinclair Broadcasting's local news anchors being forced to say the same script. It's a big deal. Under US Broadcast Policy, local stations are allowed to refuse to run content from the national network. Without that policy, a single corporation can advance and agenda to the majority of the country - exactly how fascism rises.

3. Stand with Transgender people
From wallofus.org: On March 23, Trump issued an Executive Order barring most transgender individuals from serving in the military. All of us must fight this hate by standing with our transgender community.

4. Show up at a Tax March near you
When Republicans passed the Tax Scam in December, it was at historic levels of unpopularity. Let's make sure we keep the Tax Scam at the front of everyone's minds, and keep that noise echoing all the way to November. Show up to a Tax March event near you from April 10-17.

5. Volunteer to help immigrants
Under this administration, there's been an increased effort to deport immigrants with no criminal background. Immigrants with legal counsel are more than 10 times as likely to succeed in their cases as detained immigrants without a lawyer, according to the Souther Poverty Law Center. Volunteer with SIFI - the Southeast Immigrant Freedom Initiative - to help immigrants either as a translator or attorney. You can even volunteer remotely.

That's it for this week. Keep up the great work, and don't forget self care!

Much love,
Marieke
