Jones, and against a child predator, they had a historic GOTV effort that helped give a voice to those who have been voiceless in the past. Let's work on recreating that momentum all across the country!

1. Tell your Senators: No Jones, No Vote

Republicans are rushing for a final vote on the Trump Tax Scam "conference report" this week, before Senator-Elect Doug Jones is seated. The people of Alabama have spoken and they rejected Moore and the Trump agenda. Their voices deserve to be heard, and that means no vote on the Trump Tax Scam before Doug Jones is in the Senate. Note: the current version of the bill still includes repeal of the ACA individual mandate.

2. Call your MoCs, Governor, and State Attorney General and tell them to take action to protect Net Neutrality

On Thursday, the FCC voted to dismantle Net Neutrality. Now it's up to Congress to reinstate it. And while Congress gets their act together, individual states are already taking steps to preserve Net Neutrality.

Short Script: "Hi, I'm a constituent of Senator/Representative _____ and I'm calling today to ask that they support Net Neutrality and a free and open internet. My zip code is _____." 

Long Script: "Hi, I'm a constituent of Senator/Representative _____ and I'm calling to ask what their stance on net neutrality is." If they support: "That's fantastic! Please let the Senator/Representative know that I support that position and thank them for their work." If they don't support: "That's interesting. Why does the Senator/Representative think the internet should be able to go to the highest bidder? [wait for a response] Does the Senator/Representative realize that disrupting net neutrality will disproportionately impact Americans of color, and will limit innovation which is a cornerstone of American prosperity. I urge the Senator/Representative to support a free and open internet. My zip code is _____."

3. Keep the wave going, and help fight voter suppression 

Sure the win in Alabama was huge, but even more important: local, grassroots efforts to GOTV and fight voter suppression. Between now and 2018, we need to keep working to ensure people know their rights and the information they need to make it to the polls in 2018. Consider volunteering for or donating to one of these organizations.

Donate or volunteer: Brennan Center ; Let America Vote ; Mi Familia Vota ; Your local NAACP or League of Women Voter's chapter

4. Keep calling your MoCs for a clean DREAM Act

The Dream Act still enjoys bipartisan support, and still hasn't been passed. Call your MoCs to remind them that failure to pass legislation will change the lives of hard working DACA recipients, and negatively impact the communities they call home.

5. Keep calling your MoCs to fund CHIP

Congress still has failed to reauthorize funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which insures 9 million American kids. Children's lives are on the line because our congress can't function. Call your MoC and push them to make CHIP a priority. Several states will be running out of funding in January, so time is of the essence!

1. Support candidates for the Texas Legislature

Today was the filing deadline for candidates wanting to run for spots in the Texas Legislature. Find a candidate (House, Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Gov, etc) that you want to see get elected. Help them out financially or with your time. We'll need all the help we can to get our legislature back to working for Texans instead of their wealthy donors and lobbyists.
