Dear friends and extended community members, the Alder Street Co-op has an opening for a 3 month sub-letter, with potential for long-term residence!
Our beautiful 2nd floor northwest corner room, with the picturesque porthole window, will be open 3/1, and we would like to have someone move in by 3/15. It’s a spacious well-lit palace in our Central District home, perfect for someone who wants a space to nest while being a part of a warm, goofy, and caring community.
Rent is $760 per month, and we’re asking for the first 2 month’s rent at move-in. Additionally, we split utilities and have the option to pay into a collective food fund each month, which saves us money and keeps our pantry well-stocked. A further discussion upon a phone interview or house tour can detail information on house dues.
Currently, we are 5 humans. Some of our interests include: social justice, environmental mindfulness, songwriting, sound healing, dance, improvisational movement, art, collage, poetry, crafting, gardening, writing, appreciating absurdity, getting irritated by absurdity, sacred clowning, and kitchen witchery. We are currently not accepting cats (due to an allergy), and do not have a cat, although we are holding the memory of a beloved feline muse in our hearts (visible in one of the photos below...)
We are structured loosely as a community of mutual support, and have been a cooperative for about 20 years. We make decisions consensually during our house meetings, which occur every 4-6 weeks. We all have house chores that rotate after each meeting. Each of us cooks family-style house meals once a month. We buy healthy organic and/or local food with our collective funds. We are very grateful for the home we have developed!
As of now, we have a lease to stay in this house as a co-op until the end of May. There is a possibility that we will be able to continue as a co-op after that… there is also the chance that you will have the opportunity to help the Alder Street Co-op sail its final 3-month voyage, with you at that lovely porthole window gazing lovingly into the exciting beyond.
