With the world famous ashes cricket tournament just around the corner in sunny Australia how do the those left behind in the cold and soon to be snowy united kingdom. Well with a number of Wii cricket games available you can try to relive and experience cricket for yourself.

The latest cricket game out is International Cricket 2010 which is the sequel to Ashes Cricket but sadly this did not make it the Nintendo Wii. Hopefully there will be a new game available next year but for now we will sadly have to make do with what is available.

Ashes cricket 2009 is the latest cricket game for the Wii offering the chance to battle the Australians and re-created the famous victory for England. You can experience a variety of games from the test matches and one day internationals to twenty 20 games, the newest and perhaps most exciting cricket format.

Ashes cricket is produced by Codemasters in the UK. Perhaps more famous for driving games like Toca and Colin McRae Rally they do actually have a cricketing past with such earlier classics as Brian Lara's cricket. They are also the first major games company to bring out a cricket game on the Wii so that deserves major credit.

This cricket game makes good use of the Wii's motion sensing ability, to hit the ball you swing the wiimote like a cricket bat. How else would you do it? This is the closest the average game player will get to playing cricket. Unfortunately it isn't complete realistic. The ball does not go where it might if you were playing for real but it is a decent first attempt.

A number of cricket attributes will affect your batting ability. You can attempt a number of different shots. Defensive shots, normal hit and a lofted shot to attempt to hit the big six! Timing is a key indicator to how you will pull off the shots but also the batting players skill, the bowlers skill and an added confidence factor.

Bowling is also great fun and allows a large amount of control. You can control placement by pointing at the screen and then a bowling movement to through the ball. Although this is probably more of a chuck then a bowl. You can also add bowling motion such as spin, swing, fast, normal or slow. You can even start polishing the ball to make it swing better and various other bowling traights.
