· McLennan 100 Club - Friends--we wanted to give you an update on the McLennan 100 Club's role in the West tragedy. At this time, our club does not provide death benefits to firefighters or other first responders. We are in our infancy as a club (began accepting memberships in December) and we determined early on that we must initially limit our scope to law enforcement until we raise enough money to assure a fiscally sound operation that will be able to award benefits when the time comes. Our first order of business when we get large enough is to expand to include other first responders. However, we ARE working with 100 Clubs in Austin and Bryan to collect donations for West Fire and EMS. Any money donated to this fund will be given directly to the department to help them rebuild. The department has only 33 members and they have lost at least a third of their brothers. If you would like to donate to that fund, you can send contributions (designated for "West Tragedy") to us c/o McLennan 100 Club, PO Box 21990, Waco, TX 76702. Thank you!

· ATTENTION ALL CENTRAL TEXAS MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS - As a result of the tragedy in West, Texas last night, it is reasonable to expect a significant rise in the need for mental health services in the coming months, not only for the actual victims, but for families, friends, children, and first-responders. In the particular area affected, there are many individuals without health insurance that would enable them to access mental health services. In an effort to provide care to such individuals, I am in the process of compiling a list for eventual distribution of providers who are willing to do some pro-bono work to meet these needs. If you are a LICENSED mental health provider in the Central Texas area, and you would be willing to offer one or more sessions free of charge, please send an email to katy...@yahoo.com and I will reply with more detailed information. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.

· I have been asked to provide an update and some guidance on the overwhelming response to the disaster in West, and here is the latest information from the Emergency Management command center. They are being absolutely inundated with donations of items for the victims and they ask that those who wish to help may do so most effectively through cash donations to the American Red Cross or Salvation Army, designated for this incident. For those who wish to donate directly to the community of West, an account has been set up at Point West Bank. These donations to Red Cross, Salvation Army, and the bank will be disbursed equitably and most effectively to help the most people. Unfortunately, managing massive donations of canned goods, clothing, household and other items creates tremendous work that diverts resources away from the search and recovery operations. Particularly not needed are donations of clothing and perishable foods. Thank you all for helping spread this important message. The concern shown by everyone in these situations is humbling. - Kim Patterson, APR, Associate Director, Communications and Alumni Relations, McLennan Community College Foundation

·
Caritas will be at the Five for Fighting show at the Ferrell
Center tonight accepting donations of items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste,
kids items (formula, toys, clothes), blankets and non perishable food.
Come, give and enjoy the show!
· From Salvation Army - "We are in urgent need of donated empty warehouse space for donations management as a result of the West, Texas explosion. It would be temporary for a period of time to be determined. A minimum of 15,000 square feet is preferred, but would consider less if the building was capable of meeting the need. Also, it would be desired if it contained dock(s) to receive tractor trailors. If anyone knows of a contact that may make this available, please let us know." kevin_...@uss.salvationarmy.org or 254.756.7271.
