Happy Friday Everybody! (April 5, 2013)

Spring is springing up and that means beautiful blue skies, bluebonnets, and lots to do on the weekends.  This weekend there are so many events one person couldn’t possibly do them all – from “Crawfish Crawling” at MCC, to Farm Day at WHRI,  to New Homebuyer Education, to Girl’s Day at the YMCA, to the Boys2Men Conference at Bledsoe Miller  -- and much more.  It’s a great weekend to get involved in Waco and take advantage of what our city has to offer.

If you know of events and announcements that you think would be of interest to the Act Locally Waco community, please send them to Ash...@actlocallywaco.org.  Let’s keep each other informed! Thanks for all you do! – ABT

·        April 29 – Act locally Waco Book Club – We will be discussing The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education by Diane Ravitch. The Barnes and Noble website says: “A passionate plea to preserve and renew public education, The Death and Life of the Great American School System is a radical change of heart from one of America’s best-known education experts. Diane Ravitch—former assistant secretary of education and a leader in the drive to create a national curriculum—examines her career in education reform and repudiates positions that she once staunchly advocated. She shows conclusively why the business model is not an appropriate way to improve schools. Using examples from major cities like New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Denver, and San Diego, Ravitch makes the case that public education today is in peril.” Whether you agree or not, it’s always a great conversation. Join us! For more information RSVP to Ashley_...@baylor.edu.
