Thanks to Laura of the Lebanon County Relay For Life for sharing this.
Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition Meets Relay For Life
Host a
Watch Party with your family, friends & Relay Team!
In thousands of communities across
the nation, Relay For Life is the event of the year… On November 12th, the eyes of
more than 22 million Americans will be on one very special Relay For Life event
in southern Indiana, and you're invited to join the
fun!
The cast and crew of ABC's popular
reality series Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition, recently returned from a week in St. Meinrad, Indiana, where they rebuilt the home of Shawna
Farina, a young cancer survivor who is passionate about Relay For Life. During
the course of the home build, 18 communities came together to host a five-day
Relay For Life event that highlighted the efforts of the American Cancer Society
in the community, and served as a backdrop to
construction.
Join hundreds of communities and
thousands of teams who will host Relay "Watch Parties" to see the Power of
Purple shared with millions of viewers.
ABC's popular reality TV show,
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,
visited St. Meinrad,
Indiana, to build a home for Shawna Farina,
cancer survivor, longtime Relay For Life volunteer, and Celebration
on the Hill Ambassador.
Because the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life are such major forces in Ms.
Farina's life, the producers of the show
asked the Society for help in telling her story. As a result, Great Lakes Division volunteers and staff
joined with the Relay For Life Business
Unit to coordinate an event called "Extreme Relay For Life in Spencer County." Over the
course of a five-day home build,
volunteers from 18 different Relay For
Life events across southern Indiana
conducted five consecutive 24-hour long
Relays. Over 5,000 people took part in the
event, even though the population of St.
Meinrad is approximately 800 people.
The décor in Ms. Farina's new home features Relay For Life commemorative items, and
the cast and crew of the show participated
in the event by walking laps between building projects.
TIME: This
special episode of Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition will air on ABC, this Sunday, Nov. 12th at 8
p.m. ET. Check local listings to confirm broadcast times.
