Colleagues,

We are grappling with how to best implement an interactive alcohol education session (2-4 hours) that will not bore our students but hit as many of them as possible. We feel strongly that it needs to be mandatory, but it would be very difficult to integrate the curriculum into a currently existing academic class. So, we were thinking about integrating it into the New Student Orientation program.

- Does your college/university have a alcohol education program? If so, how do you implement it?
- Does your college/university require an orientation BEFORE residential move-in and academic check-in? If so, what is
the duration and what is covered?
- Does your college/university have a lingering New Student Orientation for more than a week, having mandated
programs that all new students must attend throughout that duration? If so, how do you mandate that all new
students attend? What are the consequences for failure to attend?

Thanks for any information you can contribute.

Sincerely,

Jon Matheny
