Hey there,

Lizz, thank you for bringing up this topic! This year, I will have three sophomore RA's on my team, so I am very interested in the experiences of others. I have had sophomores previously and needed to do a few things to specifically target them in one-on-one conversations about these issues. I guess I try to understand where each RA is with all of it and then target the necessities.
I have found success in bringing up some of the issues before the new RA's leave for the summer and then as they are aware of them, I have seen them think about it. Even just yesterday I had one of my new RA's stop in and talk for a few minutes about his thoughts of how things will go next year - he seemed to have a far more mature perspective on things than he did when he left. It was great to hear since he was a little anxious about the whole thing before.

Hi everyone,

This year, I am putting together a training session specifically for
sophomore RAs in order to address some issues that are specific to that age
group (such as relationships and conduct with residents who are the same
age, or close in age). Has anyone else done this type of training, or have
any resources regarding the sophomore RA experience? I've been able to find
a couple of articles, but I think I'm mostly going to have to use my own
experience.

Any resources, personal experience, or simply observations from working with
sophomore RAs would be greatly appreciated.
