Smith College Special Collections is excited to announce two open permanent positions: Research Services Archivist and Accessioning Archivist. Both of these roles are critical to the work of the Smith College Special Collections, which includes the College Archives, Mortimer Rare Book Collection, and Sophia Smith Collection of women’s history. Both positions’ work will span the three repositories.

The Research Services Archivist, a core member of the public services staff, is primarily responsible for executing and supervising reference services across Special Collections. This includes the ongoing maintenance and development of reference policies and procedures that deliver a coordinated, consistent, and complete reference experience for all patrons.

The Accessioning Archivist’s primary responsibilities are to execute, maintain, and improve the business processes by which materials enter Special Collections’ management. As an integral part of the technical and digital services staff, the successful candidate will oversee the preparation of new acquisitions for access as soon after the transfer as possible.

Diversifying the student body, faculty, administration, staff, and curriculum is crucial to the mission of, and vision for, the College. We are committed to providing access and reasonable accommodation in the application process for individuals with disabilities and encourage applicants to request any needed accommodation(s). We value and are committed to a host of diverse populations and cultures, including, but not limited to, those based on ability, age, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, and veteran status.

Smith College is an EO/AA/Vet/Disability Employer. Women, underrepresented racial groups, veterans and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The Libraries recognize the importance of the ACRL Diversity Standards: Cultural Competency for Academic Libraries.

Please use the Smith College workday portal to submit your application. Applicant review will begin on October 28, 2019
