The latest .xmind file format implementing Xmind Workbooks consists of a ZIP compressed archive containing an JSON document for contents, a .png image file for thumbnails, and some directories for attachments. The file format is open and based on some principles of OpenDocument/OfficeOpenXML.
I still cannot find a solution, I press Alt in windows mode and nothing changes unless i move it and it is no longer unlinked, I then also press ctrl and that will create a copy, I try shift but this delinks the subtopic, it is not straight forward for me at the moment.
Moving bits of the map around is easy and there are enough formatting options to keep me happy. Another thing it does (which xmind doesn't for some stupid reason) is allow you to create multiple central topics on one page.
Since XMIND files are compressed with Zip compression, they can be decompressed using a Zip decompression program, such as Corel WinZip, 7-Zip, WinRAR, or Apple Archive Utility. Simply rename the .xmind extension to .zip and decompress it. You can then manually extract the contents of the XMIND file, which typically include multiple .XML files and .JPG thumbnail files. When you are finished viewing or modifying the contents, you can compress the archive again with Zip compression again using a Zip utility, then rename the .zip extension to .xmind.
If I create a file using xmind then I see the thumbnail correctly in DO's thumbnail view.
The thumbnail gets then lost easily by two methods.
a) If I change the size of the thumbnails the thumbnail disappears and I get the xmind icon instead.
b) If I switch to another directory and return to the one where I saved the file I see the icon not the thumbnail.
Clearing the cache and then going back to the directory does not result in the thumbnails being regenerated.
If I have several xmind files in a directory only one has a thumbnail. The rest revert to icons.
Sounds like there is a bug in the .xmind thumbnail provider, since it affects Explorer as well. (Maybe XYPlorer is caching the thumbnails differently to Opus and Explorer, or requesting them in a slightly different way which doesn't trigger the problem. If the thumbnail provider isn't compatible with Explorer then the bug is definitely within it.)
Sorted! Now it works correctly.
As Windows Explorer gets the Thumbnails wrong I decided to search the web for that instead. Found this page superuser.com/questions/393735/a ... 742#393742 which discusses ways of fixing the problem.
I needed to deinstall xmind, manually remove all xmind references from the registry and then reinstall xmind. After that the thumbnails worked correctly.
As XYPlorer worked correctly I did not think the problem was with the app so thanks for your help in pointing me in the correct direction.
