RE:                  CALL FOR PAPERS/COLLOQUIUM FOR DOCTORAL CANDIDATES AND JUNIOR SCHOLARS

                        SPECIAL ISSUE OF QUEBEC STUDIES

We are very pleased to announce the launch of a joint initiative focusing on three related efforts: a call for papers; the convening of a colloquium; and, the publication of edited essays in the journal Quebec Studies.

CALL FOR PAPERS:

This memo is an official call for scholarly essays on any and all topics featuring significant Quebec content by doctoral candidates and junior scholars.  Papers can be from any academic discipline, must present original research and must not have been previously published.   Selected submissions will be included as part of the November 2012 colloquium.  Revised select contributions from the colloquium will be featured as a special dossier in a regular issue of the journal Quebec Studies, dedicated to focusing on the scholarship of new academics working on Quebec-focused research in the United States.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal, please electronically forward an abstract not to exceed 300 words (explaining the theoretical approach/empirical evidence to be examined), relevant title and current c.v. no later than May 15, 2012.  Please submit your proposal to Chris Kirkey at SUNY Plattsburgh (kirk...@plattsburgh.edu). All submissions will be examined by a peer review panel and individuals will be contacted no later than June 15, 2012 regarding their submission.  A maximum of 12 proposals will be accepted for the colloquium.  All essays must be completed and electronically submitted (once again to SUNY Plattsburgh) no later than September 15, 2012.  If accepted, contributors will, in mid-June, be provided with a style sheet/detailed writing guidelines (length, format, footnote/reference style requirements, etc.)  and further information on the structure and content of the colloquium.

COLLOQUIUM:

The colloquium will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Sarasota, Florida and will include a full-day of proceedings, including paper presentations, peer review and discussion on Wednesday, November 7th. The timing and locale of the colloquium are designed to complement the American Council for Quebec Studies (ACQS) biennial conference, which begins at the hotel on November 8th.

Shortly after the colloquium, contributors will be provided with a formal written commentary/analysis of their contribution, specifically designed to encourage, where needed, revision and general editing.  Contributors will have until March 1st, 2013 to undertake any requested revisions and to electronically re-submit their papers to our offices.

SUPPORT TO FACILITATE YOUR PARTICIPATION:

To facilitate your involvement in this project, SUNY Plattsburgh, McGill University and the American Council for Quebec Studies are pleased to be able to provide the following support for those individuals selected to participate:

(1)   Full breakfast, breaks and lunch, November 7th

(2)   Lodging, double occupancy, for five nights (arriving November 6th and departing November 11th) at the Sarasota Hyatt Regency Hotel

(3)   Two year complimentary membership in ACQS, including the journal Quebec Studies

(4) One year complimentary subscription to Globe: la revue international        d’etudes quebecoises

This initiative is being sponsored by SUNY Plattsburgh, McGill University, the Quebec Ministry of International Relations, and the American Council for Quebec Studies.

We trust that you will agree that this is an exciting initiative, one which can lead to a peer-reviewed publication of your scholarship in an internationally respected multidisciplinary academic journal.  We encourage you to contact us with any inquiries you may have.  We look forward to receiving your proposal!
