Is there anyway to enter in custom urls without the web page interface...since that web page no longer exists?

I sometimes like to listen to Fox News Radio and it appears the existing url for that is dead.

But I did find:

mms://a138.l1387324137.c13873.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/138/13873/v0001/reflector:24137

Thanks

No, I don't think so.  In order to do that the radio needs to have a web server with an interface you can access from your PC like my Roku Soundbridge and IR168 do.  The only way it can have that is when someone figures out how to hack it and install a new ROM to give it that capability. It looks like these radios are going to become useless once all the pre-programmed URL's quit working. On the plus side there are so many other internet radios and devices that can play internet radio stations on the market now that you can pickup a different one pretty cheap.  I just got a Roku Soundbridge M1001 at Goodwill for $10!  Or just use a radio playing app on your tablet, smart phone or Android 4 Mini PC.

They have new firmware for internet radios at http://www.listenlive.nl.  The only problem is that "To load firmware 1.47 you need the Listenlive Loader with at least v2.0 installed on your device already."  That requires rooting the radio first and being able to access the file system before you can load it.

Thanks for the info Steve.

I have been looking at the Grace Mondo WiFi internet radio.  It has USB on the back and lots of pre-sets.  Just waiting to see if it will come down in price.  Around Christmas there was a big sale in the States but Canada didn't have the same sale.

Thanks again for your help.

The problem with dedicating an all-purpose device like a tablet to streaming is that it costs at least twice as much as an internet radio and most of the apps that I have tried are either poorly written or also want to enslave you to their server.

I bought the ARIR200 knowing that it would likely one day die and sure enough it did, although I had hoped for a few more years out of it. When the device depends on somebody else to operate then it quits when that certain somebody leaves for greener pastures. I want to be in control of my device so that I can get full value out of it. I learned my lesson with the ARIR200.

Maybe a group of enterprising smarties should see if Acoustic Research will transfer the domain name to them to set up a server that would allow all users to continue to manage their radios. Even if they charge a small fee for upkeep it might be worth it to a good number of people.

Frank,

I agree with you on your points. I'm an Internet Radio fanatic and love listening to free live streams. If you own an iOS device, I would recommend the app "Internet RadioBox". It is by far the best Internet radio app out there (at least for iOS devices), and I've been using it for the past 4.5 years with no problems!

I am sad that the AR & RCA radios have been phased out, as I was a developer on that project but have moved to another company. I did see it coming one day, but too bad it happened so soon!

Paul, Those radios are a lot cheaper in Europe if you check Ebay or Amazon UK or DE.  I tried ordering one from there once but they wouldn't ship it to the US.  Maybe they would send it to Canada?  In the mean time I would keep checking thrift stores for used ones.

Frank, with $50 tablets available at Big Lots that's not entirely out of the question anymore.  Get a set of amplified speakers for $6.99 to go along with it and you're all set.

Actually I tried one of the cheap 7" tablets and didn't like it much. It worked fine as a radio but the screen wasn't very good and the touch function wasn't very responsive so I returned it and got a 10.1" tablet for $120 that's much better.  The 10.1" one works great, the screen is clear and bright and it's very responsive.  It's still cheaper than one of the radio's with a color display but does a lot more like play movies and TV shows.  Not all the radio apps will work though, iHeartRadio and TuneIn Radio say they are not compatible but Last.FM  Rdio, Sky.FM, Slacker, Winamp, XiiaLive, Rad.io, Google Play (that will play music from Amazon) and off beat ones like the Old Time Radio Player will all work OK.  Winamp includes Shoutcast that seems to be the best just for playing a lot of stations.

There is also an Android app called AOR, A Online Radio, that lets you put in a URL to play so besides the list of stations it already has you can play any station you want to even if it's not listed.

Hello,

Who can help me to get a rom image? I searched at various places but all download links appear to be dead.
I would like to take a look if the rom can be modified so that the device can be pointed to my server.
I host a station database/portal (listenlive.nl) that is used by various radios for which support has been dropped.
Some with support from the manufacturer, some with patched roms and some with rewritten firmware.

While writing this message I see there is a possibility for file attachements, I also saw a file section mentioned. However, neither are visible.

Best Regards,
William Jansen

I don't think anyone has made a rom image yet. Do you think the radio can be modified to go to your server instead of the dead one?
BTW, Google eliminated file storage in groups a while ago so there aren't any files now.

I know this is for Acoustic Research, but maybe somebody here can help.
I have a Sony Dash and it has an area to add internet radio stations
referred to as Internet Radio Streamer. It allows the user to input a
name and URL for an internet radio station. I have tried this, but I
haven't had any luck. Can anybody here point me to any lists of radio
station URLs that I can try? It looks like Slacker works okay. It also
has Pandora, but I would like to add more.

Not sure but I suppose it will only play MP3 or WMA streams and those are getting rarer all the time. First you need to find a stream that will play and anything that requires opening a webpage or downloading a Flash player is not playable on most internet radios. If you have a station in mind try playing it in Windows Media Player or VLC and check the stream to see what kind it is. If it looks suitable you can try playing it. If you don't have any in mind then Twit and Dark Matter should work, http://twit.am/listen.m3u or http://live.darkmatterradio.net:8303/stream.  For music try Ministry of Sound, http://wma.sharp-stream.com/moswma.  You can find more at Reciva although it can be difficult to dig out the URL sometimes, https://www.reciva.com/
