Up until recently, all of BBC's live radio channels and their archived
shows were available through the ARIRC200. The channels were built to
play on a Real media player and therefore played on the ARIRC200. But
recently the BBC went to a flash player and you can't receive any of
the BBC stations except the World Service. From the BBC's website it
says:

Internet Radios, Wifi Radios: all the common devices that we know
about can make use of our Windows Media services, and communications
with key manufacturers have allowed them to provide live and listen-
again services on those devices. If you have one of these devices and
this isn't working - speak to the manufacturer in the first instance.

Since I thought the ARIRC200 can play windows media services it should
be able to play all of the BBC channels, and it doesn't. Is this
something that can be fixed by an update or by some other means? Is
there something I can do? The main reason I bought the radio was to
listen to the BBC. I really have had a good experience with the radio
until now. So, any chance this can be
fixed........Thanks...........Mike

Hi,

I listen to BBC World Service and BBC 5Live on the AR. I add them with the portal account as a favourite. http://www.arinfiniteradio.com/portal/default.html

Try that?

In case you weren't paying attention that was all cleared up already

I used to get archived shows from the bbc lists when I had a different brand internet radio that used the Reciva system. They showed up under the bbc channel which originally aired them. Haven't seen them thru the AR Portal site I don't think.

To play from the BBC's Archived Podcasts list just right click the
green bar of the one you want, copy the URL and save it
on the radio's playlist as a Favorite.

That's is for podcasts, not an archived show. An archived show can't
be downloaded. The BBC keeps all of their shows archived for a week
after it's been on the radio. A lot of them are dramas and comedies,
music show. The BBC has these shows on different stations. Sports
programs are on Radio 5. Music on Radio One or Two. Before they went
flash you could just right click on the show while it was playing on
the computer and it would give you the URL, which you could put into
the RCA portal and it would play the latest show week after week. That
is when the BBC player was built on Real player. But since they
switched to flash, when you right click on the player you get a flash
address which doesn't do anything. It's basically the version of flash
they are using followed by a few letter and numbers. When I first
started this link, I posted what was said about moving to flash from
the Real Player. It says that the BBC has contacted internet radio
companies how make a work around. I was hoping someone from RCA would
let us know if that has happened and whether or not it can be fixed
with an update............m

Yep M, you need a Reciva if you won't tell us what you want to play.
Most BBC stations can be listened too by playing the MP3 but you have
to tell us what it is.
Vague mentions of stations you used to get don't help any.

It sounds like M is annoyed with the way the BBC works in general. We
could probably
help with one stations but I doubt we can reorganize the entire BBC to
make it work in a
more favorable manner. Those stations always seem to be doing
everything they can to
make their programs difficult to listen to so I think M will have to
take it up with them directly.

the mp3s are podcasts. None of these shows were podcasts....I am led
to believe that the bbc are willing to tell the different internet
radio providers how they can somehow change their radios to work on a
windows media platform....I would think it would be better to talk to
rca to find out if there is some kind of upgrade there could be made
to the radio.........m

For some reason my last post hasn't shown up....so if this is a
replay, my apologies.....the MP3s are the podcasts. These shows are
not those. I thought it might be better to talk to RCA about it.
According to the BBCs website, they have contacted internet radio
providers of the change and have some given the providers a way where
they would play on windows media.....I have never dealt with RCA, but
I know a lot of you have and it doesn't sound like it's a good
experience.............m

As far as I know all internet radios work with Windows media and they
always have.
Getting them to work with archived shows is an entirely different
thing however and requires
programming an additional feature into the radio.
It's not likely that RCA would add that capability since it's not
widely used but you
can always ask.

To anyone that cares, I finally found a way to listen to all the
'Listen Again" Programs on the BBC. First, you go to the station you
want to listen to on the BBC radio website and click on Listen Now.
The IPlayer will come up. Look at the URL address on the IPlayer. It
will be something like this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00ck2dq
What you want are those last set of letters and numbers after the
last / So that would be b00ck2dq. That is your shows code and it's
different for each show. Copy that and go to http://www.iplayerconverter.co.uk/convert.aspx
If it's not already open click on the 'Convert IPlayer' tab. Paste
the code (b00ck2dq) into the box that says Enter PID. Click convert
and it will bring up several URLs. I always go for the first one,
though most will work. Paste that into your RCA Portal and you're
ready to go........Mike

Good bit of detective work! I guess there's a work-around for
anything, even the BBC.

I have an addendum to the BBC Listen again programs. I found out that
when you cut and paste the first or second link presented by the
IConverter, they are only good for one week of a show.....in other
word the link is for that particular show for that week.....but if you
look at the other links given, you see links that give days and times.
These are the links you want to use. That way you won't have to put in
a new code every week. And when your show eventually ends, whatever is
playing at that time and day will begin to play. This is convenient
because Radio 4 has like four different quiz shows that play for three
months at a time. They rotate every three months and come on at the
same time and day. This way you can go from quiz show to quiz show
without having to change links in your portal......Also, for some
reason, some links just don't work......not sure why......but for the
most part they should work. M
