Last week the Daily Caller posted a story about how President Obama had ordered the Marines to break their rules regarding holding umbrella's. It is a silly thing, but a silly thing that once again reinforces that Obama cares little for rules and regulations and only seeks to remake the world as he wants it to be. It's a sad thing, really, and no man or women or party or group should be endorsing and supporting that sort of unequal and elitist view of mankind.
From the story
Obama breaches Marine umbrella protocol:
...The commander in chief of the American armed forces today forced a violation of Marine Corps regulations, so he wouldn’t get wet.
According to Marine Corps regulation MCO P1020.34F of the Marine Corps Uniform Regulations chapter 3, a male Marine is not allowed to carry an umbrella while in uniform. There is no provision in the Marine Corps uniform regulation guidelines that allows a male Marine to carry an umbrella.
Nevertheless, during a press conference under a light drizzle with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan this morning, President Obama allowed the First Head to be protected from the elements by an umbrella held by a male Marine corporal...
In response to this,
I commented on the blog Juanita Jean's-
...The author of the post and those commenting all said “he’s the President- if he says jump you say ‘how high’”- that is a marked contrast to how our President has been viewed historically. He’s just a man elected to do a job, people- he’s no better than you or me and can hold his own umbrella... I don’t care if he’s Republican or Democrat- he’s just a man, not some sort of god, and you are all wrong for worshiping him...
President Obama thinks that he is better than you and I. Because of his belief that he is superior to you, he thinks he is morally and intellectually permitted to make decisions for you regarding your life- what you are allowed to eat, how you are allowed to raise your children, decisions regarding your healthcare, whether or not you can use a certain energy resource, how you go about utilizing that energy source, what sorts of cars you drive, who you are allowed to support politically, etc.
But President Obama isn't better than you or I- he is a man, nothing more, nothing less- a man that was elected to be President of the United States to do a job running our executive branch, serving as commander-in-chief, engaging in diplomacy with other nations, and acting occasionally if circumstances call for it as our chief-of-state. He isn't our lord, he isn't our king, he isn't a god, and he only deserves as much respect as he earns plus respect due to the history of the office of the President. He can hold his own umbrella.
But that's not what liberals, progressives, fascists, Democrats, and readers of Juanita Jean's thinks.
- Juanita Jean writes "Dude, it’s the President of the United Damn States of America.... what was President Obama supposed to do?"
- Marcia says "And if the Prez says “hold it” … they had better hold it!"
- Alacrity Fitzhughe says "He’s the Commander in Chief. enough said. If he told them to strip down to their underwear they would race each other to see who was quickest."
- And more.
There is no way of knowing how many readers and voters and supporters of the Democratic party this small sample size represents. I hope it is only a small number and that very few people actually read that blog or support the views and arguments made in it. This sort of desire to bow to lords and kings and those pretending to be 'gods' has been around for hundreds of thousands of years- but it is on the radical rejection of this that America was founded.
If the number of people who think that it was okay for Obama to order a Marine to hold an umbrella over his head when it was raining now outnumbers those who don't, then perhaps America is no longer that radical and unique nation of freedom, liberty, prosperity, and equality that it once was.
This sort of 'bow to the President' mentality is wrong and I wonder where it comes from? A desire to fit in? To be part of the 'in' crowd? Fear of retaliation by the government? Misplaced hero worship? A lack of faith that leads one to worship men since they don't worship God? I can only speculate, as I was raised in a free nation to believe that I was the equal of every citizen in this nation and fully qualified to make my own decisions over my life, liberty, and property. I for one refuse to bow to Obama and if he orders me to hold up an umbrella for him I know what I'll do with it instead.
