Coaches,
I want to update you on the upcoming ICPC Greater New York regional contest.
Due to various geopolitical circumstances, our normal operation as a single site region will most likely not happen this year. We are all extremely disappointed at the turn of events but our priority is for the safety and comfort of the students and volunteers for our contest.
A final decision will be made this week and all online registration will begin after that. Below is our plan in the likely event that this year will be a distributed contest:
This year we are planning to do what we call micro sites. This, in effect, means that each University will act as a host for its own student teams. You will only be required to provide a classroom(s), proctor(s), printing, a team photo, a photo of the contest area during the event, collection and distribution of t-shirts, etc for your teams. You may invite other Universities to attend if you wish depending on your resources and security but that is up to you (please inform me of any decisions you make).
In the event of a micro site contest, the registration fee would be reduced to $50 per team. This fee will go towards t-shirts, prizes, and administrative costs.
Full rules will be posted later this week and I will send you the links.
In short, a team will consist of 3 students with one desktop/laptop. We will have the official contest image for download and installation along with instructions posted online (I will send the links later this week).
Students are not required to use the contest image, however all tools, compilers, etc that will be used for the judging of the contest are on said image.
Students will use a weblink to connect to the contest control system to submit solutions, clarifications, and retrieve the problem set (which they can access and print once the contest begins). A practice contest will be starting, Sunday Oct 27, 2 weeks before the actual contest.
Students are NOT allowed to access the internet but may use as many hard copy resources as they like (notes, text books, etc).
A coach is responsible for providing proctors to ensure no team is accessing the Internet, no team receives outside assistance, and will have to certify that these rules were followed to the best of their knowledge.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me directly at joe.te...@icpc.global.
We will also have virtual meetings every Sunday from 11am to 11:30am ET you are welcome to join if you prefer to discuss any issues or problems you may have. The google meet link is: https://meet.google.com/jma-kihw-ryc
The meeting dates will be:

Sunday Oct 13
Sunday Oct 20

If you would like to request a video call at a different date and time please let me know and I will be happy to set that up.
I want to apologize for the unfortunate turn of events. I know this is deeply frustrating and disappointing to us all and it is my hope that we return once again to a single site bigger and better than ever in 2025.
Joe
