Hello ACMers,

As we haven't seen spam in the group in a while thanks to requiring manual approvals of applying members, let me do the spamming my self :)

Google is hiring. Few of the positions are available only to Arabic speaking engineers, so that should increase your chances of getting an offer. If you're interested to apply for an internship (next summer) or for a full time job at Google, please send me your CV at khale...@google.com with "<your first name> <your last name> CV" in the title (you can leave the body empty, no problem). I'll make sure that your CV reaches the correct people and that most of you will make it to the screening phone interview phase.

Please note that Google's office in Egypt does not contain any engineering teams, and therefore the candidate locations will be abroad. If this is your last year in college, probably you will have trouble with the military service. Make sure you will be allowed to travel by the time of your internship/full time job.

Let me give you few guidelines concerning your CV:
- Preferably, the first section in your CV should be the "Objective". Indicate there whether you are looking for full time job or for an internship and your preferred starting date. Keep in mind that internships are at least 3 months long. A statement like "Seeking a/an (full time job/internship) in the field of computer science starting June 2010 where blah blah blah" should do the trick.
- Clearly indicate your contact information (email address and phone number) in the CV.
- Clearly indicate you military status (postponed - exempted) in the "Personal Data" section (along with your date of birth, etc...)
- Indicate that Arabic is your native language in the "Language Skills" or the equivalent section, as well your proficiency in English.
- Keep your CV <= 2 pages. Achievements and experiences related to computer science (academic awards that you have received, internships you have had, courses you have assisted, significant project you have developed (your thesis project is hopefully a good example, if you have started it already), and of course, your achievements in the ACM) are much more important than any extracurricular activities. If you run out of space, don't remove any of those achievements, but rather try to be very brief in the extracurricular activities section.

It is too early to think about that, but if you're wondering how do the phone interview look like, you can search for "google interview experience" and see how people describe their interviews.

Feel free to address me any questions you have. If I did not get a lot of applications (I received around 5 or so) I will review your CV and let you know if I have comments or if I found any missing important information. If I got around 20 applications, I don't think I will be able to do so :)

Regards,
Khaled
