ACL SIGUR board elections 2022 and other news

Dear ACL SIGUR members,

as we do not have an annual in person meeting, and we have to organise regular election of the ACL SIG board, it will be conducted via email. Some relevant information is in https://acl-sigur.github.io/sigur-constitution.html and http://aclweb.org/adminwiki/index.php?title=SIG_Compliance. Any ACL SIGUR member can be nominated, and you can nominate yourself. For nominations, please simply respond to this email; if you nominate someone besides yourself, they will have to accept the nominations. The vote will be held in after four weeks time, we would also appreciate if someone who is not running is willing to participate as vote counter / election official.

On other news we are hoping to be able to meet in a next IWCLUL in person / hybrid 2023, however the situation is still / again unstable, so we will keep you updated once we know more.

It seems that there is not enough interest in continuation of ACL SIGUR and IWCLUL, so I will report to ACL to put the SIG on hold until further notice.

Hi all,

Thanks Flammie for staying active with this! Putting SIG on hold feels reasonable at this point when the current situation has just been getting more problematic, and normal conference organization and travel in our language family's region doesn't seem getting easier in the very near future. I assume pretty large percentage of people involved in SIG will be at CIFU in Vienna from August 21st to 27th, 2022. So maybe we can rest for the summer and then have some discussions there in person about how to proceed. I think having everything happening virtually is killing the spirit a bit, but the topic itself is of course always relevant.
