I'm very new to python scripting and anything online in general, but I wanted to start somewhere interesting so I came up with a goal to write a simple desktop .py file that everytime I run just simply posts 'Hello World' to my facebook wall under my name.

now the docs say that the User Token's lifetime is quite short and I don't really like the idea of having to manually going in and copying it into my program (even if its at every 2 hours or 2 months) so I made a second attempt by instead fetching an App Token to which I enabled every permission to access my account

I thought that maybe using the User Token was the way to go, but after several hours of trial and error including trying to get the User Token by supplying an email and password, I read that it was not possible at all without user interaction. So going back to App Tokens and more reading. I came across using PHP within Python or creating a Login Flow with OAuth/OAuth2 (which I have neither experience with) to retrieve a token that I can use, but I'm starting to feel like I'm getting off track on what I'm supposed to be using.

Not sure if this is the most efficient answer, but I managed by using App credentials to authenticate my login, but instead of passing it through requests, I had it go through a WebWidget to emulate a browser in which the URL would include the code or token, close the window after retrieving the value and use it to create the facebook graph and run it like normal.

On the other hand, if theres a user already logged in, you could check cookies if a user is already logged in and exchange the code for an access token and just do a browser login if theres none. This way the webwidget doesnt need to popup every time the program is run.

I'm able to post to my Facebook wall page when logged in using a PHP script (and the Graph API). I have a news page on my main website, and would like to push news items out to Facebook as they are posted to my site (which I guess is backwards from how many people use the API).

If I understand your question correctly, I think I have just solved the same problem. I could not solve it entirely using the graph API, but a combination of the graph api and legacy rest api did the trick. Once you have granted permission for your app to post to your facebook page wall, the following code should do what you want:

Few things worth noting.
1. The uid in the rest api $postString is the uid for your facebook PAGE. You do not need a target_id because when the uid is of a page it can only publish to itself.
2. Your $message must be rawurlencoded because that is the form accepted by the rest api.
3. This will post to your page as your APP, not as the user who made the post to your website. To do that you would need to have the publish_stream permission from all of your users.

First of all - sorry for a long thread. Secondly, I'm not (at all) well versed in coding, so I tip my hat to those who have put together the scripts (linked/mentioned below) that were the starting point of this. I've been trying to combine/modify these scripts to perform the tasks I require but I can't seem to get it to work.

What I'm trying to do: I have a multi page document that consist of about 20 pages that range from a bunch of products; double sided business card, a couple of different posters/signs and material for online marketing. These different products contain a persons name and contact details (phone number and email) along with different types of photos of the person depending on the product.

My current solution: I'm batching/using a bunch of scripts in a folder. These are each dedicated to a number of pages. For example (PDF), if page 1-2 would be a business card then I would have a minimalistic script/file called "page 1 business card.jsx":

What I would like to do: I would like to use a script that allows me to specify the name using a paragraph style. Then I could make a non printing layer and, in this layer, create a text box in which I'd use a specific paragraph style applied to the two data merge entries " ". Then during the export, a script would find that specific paragraph style and replace the XXX.

Problem: This doesn't work with JPG as the script only exports the pages where the specified "file name" paragraph style is present, in my case the first page. So, hereby kindly requesting that someone could help out in solving the matter of exporting a specified page as JPG.

I thought I could use this to create a script that pointed to a specific paragraph style and then only exported the page on which this style was used. I did a test run and used a style called "Facebook" (applied to ) only on page 3 (of 3) and tried exporting.

I tried your script but it doesn't export anything on my end. At first I thought the problem was that Facebook was in single quotation marks: 'Facebook' - so I changed it to "Facebook" but that didn't work either. The script runs without fault but doesn't seem to output.

I banged my head against the wall a bit, moved the snippet around a bit, did some duplicating - and then it worked. I'm sure its not pretty tho - but I'm pretty happy that I managed to get it working at all

So now, if the businesscard paragraph style contains my data merge list I end up with the script creating a main folder called "John Smith" in which a sub folder called "Businesscard" is created - in which the file "John Smith Businesscard.pdf" is saved.

And as a side note (since there were only 8 hits of which 1 was pertinent [but incorrect]) to whomever Googles for how to change the Blend space to RGB for exporting JPG (and then changing it back after export):

Like I mentioned before, I can now create a document using from Data merge in a paragraph called "name" for creating a folder called "First name Last name" and have different instances of the script to allow for different suffixes like "_business card", "_instagram" and so on.

Thanks for replying. I realised the script seems to actually work. What seems to be wrong is my document, because whenever I try a new document - it works. Not sure why it only picks up the name_paragraph but not the other paragraphs even when they are available.

This script effectively merges each file one at a time to PDF; or ID and then exports to another format... but if exporting to anything other than directly to PDF, there is the ability to run a script prior to export. If you use this script, merge to ID files but use a custom script that you've written to do specific page exports, would that be of use?

If you sneak a peek at the image I posted in my reply to Mike: I enjoy using your script for the different parts that the document consists. Say I need to produce business cards for all 190+ posts I would just use the 20+ page template, erase all the pages that weren't pertinent to the business card and then save it as a separate document/run your script to produce 190+ business cards that would end up getting proper file names like: John Smith Business card.pdf

I first started using your script when I had to produce christmas cards for all employees. Much obliged

99Point is my blog where I have been sharing social network scripts since 2010 and developed many free apps for my readers to download and use.
After thousands of free downloads and receiving lot of appreciation from my blog readers, In 2013, I started working on a commercial version of the wall script. The current release 7 is part of that series.
