Hi CEC -

Just wanted to give a quick update on the meeting I had this morning related to a possible garden event in N Portland (Mississippi/Beech).  My friend Zeenia, who works part time at the Urban League of Portland (they own the land the garden is located on) was super stoked to hear about ideas on bringing together the co-op, maybe PAALF/Cherry Sprout/Urban League/other community orgs together for a kickoff party this Spring!  We talked through some of the TJ stuff that is cooking and she's aware of the PAALF letter and knows there are some connections among Urban League and PAALF, but she's going to check in with folks at the Urban League to see what kind of combined efforts there could be across orgs for the garden.

I know the TJ issue is important and time sensitive, so I've sent her the petition Cherry Sprout started up in hopes UL will also hop on with a signature/endorsement.  And, as a separate (or additional) means, she's also going to see about shipping it off to the community workers that UL works directly with (these folks are more or less ambassadors in various neighborhoods).

For the event itself surrounding the garden and community members, we thought having a slightly more strategic plan for self-sufficiency would be the way to go.  So, instead of rushing to have an event ASAP, we'd be aiming to plan ahead so the first event is more of a kick off for the season.  Some ideas we threw out were having various working/volunteer days to build community engagement, having set times/days where the preschool across the street would have storytime in the garden, having volunteer schedules established so there are community folks taking charge and growing/eating yummy foods vs. UL having to micromanage all activities.  The list goes on...but the biggest news is: it's moving and when I have more info from how it's looking on the UL side, I'll keep bringing it to the CEC.  (She's also going to check on permission of maybe having chickens there!)

Holler with questions - thanks!

Hey CECers - I won't be able to make the meeting on the 20th - is there anyone else who is planning to attend who can take notes?

Thanks for the heads up!  It sounds like Ashley also can't attend.  Are there others out there on the list that were interested in attending?  If not, I think we'll have to set another date, or skip since Jamilah would be by herself :(

I am not sure I will be attending either, since I have another event scheduled for that evening.

Hey guys - haven't heard anything back and it appears as though Jamliah was never added to the CEC email list, so I think February's meeting will be canceled.

Jamilah - can you pass through the request to have the meeting removed from the website for 2/20?

All - can we virtually check in on action items to keep things moving?

JB will ask Theresa C if people can be on donations committee

JB will ask Rachel what WOs are doing and where there are holes

JB will wait to hear back from people she contacted about TJ’s before we move forward with event planning.

AT set up a time w FB to discuss survey creation

AT contact RH re: getting WO’s (current and new) involved in survey project

TH-DONE (ANOTHER MEETING 2/17) will email an update from community garden meeting on Fri 1/17

TH-DONE will share sample tasks with AT for WO ideas of event planning/community engagement
