Thelatest Polo GTI may be small in stature, but it looms large by any other measure. Bold styling, race-bred performance and an outstanding array of innovative tech make the Polo GTI a force to be reckoned with.
The latest Polo comes in two paint colours, making it easier than ever to assert your individuality. Vibrant Violet Metallic and Smokey Grey Metallic are genuine head-turners, while Pure White and other Metallic and Pearl Effect colours are just as enticing.
The 8-inch Digital Cockpit instrument cluster in the Polo Life offers a unique and thoroughly modern way to view key driving information such as vehicle speed and engine revs. Choose the Polo Style and information is presented on an impressive 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro screen that can be customised exactly to your needs.
Dual zone climate control air-conditioning (Style only) allows for easy adjustment of the temperature in the cabin. Set the temperature, rate of airflow and other functions such as windscreen defrost and rear window heating by using the touch surfaces and tactile sliders.
IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights (Style only) contain multiple LEDs per headlight module for outstanding lighting adaptability and versatility. Each module can activate different, partially interactive light functions and project them onto the road to give permanent high beam (Dynamic Light Assist) without dazzling other road users.
The Polo has you covered with reassuring driver assistance technology that acts as a guiding hand with every drive you take. Travel Assist allows for partially automated driving at highway and inner city speeds, while Front Assist can help reduce the likelihood of a collision with a pedestrian6.
Give your Polo a sound and technology boost with this immersive package featuring an 8-inch Discover Media navigation system, Voice Control, Wireless App-Connect and Keyless Access. A Beats premium audio system with six speakers and subwoofer will bring your favourite music vividly to life.
Add another layer of fun and functionality to your Polo with this package, which incorporates an 8-inch Discover Media navigation system, Digital Cockpit Pro, Voice Control and Wireless App-Connect7, Travel Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Spanning the entire width of the roof, the electric glass panoramic sunroof (optional for Style) offers expansive views of the sky above. Retract the sunroof and allow fresh air and sunlight to stream into the cabin.
New for 2024 is the return of blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and proactive occupant protection safety systems to the Polo Style after they were removed in late 2022 due to semiconductor shortages.
Meanwhile physical buttons have return to the steering wheel in the Polo GTI, replacing touch-sensitive controls criticised for being too easy to press accidentally, but also difficult to press accurately.
The Polo Life and Style make use of a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine developing 85kW and 200Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission sending power to the front wheels.
Inside it features an 8.0-inch instrument display, an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, wired Apple CarpPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless smartphone charging, and a manual air conditioning system.
For an extra $1700, the optional Vision and Tech package adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control, lane centring and voice control.
Moving up to the Polo Style adds 16-inch alloy wheels, matrix LED headlights, LED tail-lights with scrolling indicators, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, a 10.25-inch instrument display, semi-autonomous parking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and more.
On the inside, the GTI benefits from wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a sports steering wheel with shift paddles, sports seats with tartan-patterned upholstery, and satellite navigation.
Buyers can add a 9.2-inch infotainment screen and Beats sound system with the $1500 Sound and Tech package on the Polo GTI. A panoramic sunroof is also available on the Polo Style and Polo GTI for $1650.
When I was shopping around there was no negotiation on price and wait times where 9-12 months depending on spec for a MY22, I was cross shopping the Polo GTI with a few other cars. I was looking at the base version without any of the packs and four MY21 for $38.5K and MY22 and about $41k was a verbal price .
"Just to update, pricing of the facelifted models was announced on 10 March, and I ordered my GTI on 17 March with an August delivery promised. I was told there will be no floor stock coming. Official release is in May and there will be demonstrators in some dealers at that time, but selling will be by individual order."
Kapellmeister, I ran your experience past my dealer (in WA) and he said that the 2022 Polo has now been "released" but he hasn't got his (red) demonstrator and didn't know when it was coming. He said it's a similar story with the Tiguan R and he wishes VW would stop "releasing" cars when they don't have stock. He hadn't heard about any delay to the August due date for my order but will check with the stock controller.
An update to Kapellmeister's info that his (original) GTI was expected in November. I have now been told that that is when I could expect mine (previously August). But at least the silver-grey dash is an option for all exterior colours now (not just red), so my order has been adjusted accordingly.
Yes, it was available to order in the old model on any colour. The VW dealer material for the new model in March (when I ordered) said iron grey dash available as an option only in Kings Red cars (which I didn't want). On official release in May, the option was extended to any exterior colour.
To complete the story, I took delivery yesterday (13 April 2023) of the Polo GTI ordered in March 2022. The dealer said that if I were to order one today the delay would be similar. So far very happy.
That seems pretty reasonable. We paid about $52k for a fully loaded demo (registered for 1 week, 15km on clock and we were the only test drivers) late last year with tinting, dashcam, paint /seat protection, 5 year service pack and maybe more.

The Volkswagen Polo is a supermini car (B-segment) produced by the German car manufacturer Volkswagen since 1975. It is sold in Europe and other markets worldwide in hatchback, saloon, and estate variants throughout its production run.
Some generations were facelifted midway through production, with the updated versions known unofficially by an addition of the letter F to the mark number, e.g., Mk2F. Some members of the automotive press and some enthusiasts consider the facelifts to be separate models, so have used the unofficial designations Polo Mk1 to Mk7 for previous generations.[2] Each Polo model is also identified by a two- or three-character Volkswagen Group Typ number. Official VW Polo history describes Mark I to Mark IV using either Roman numerals[1] or Arabic numerals, with facelifted variants known as "Phase II" models.[3]
