Ideas for future meeting presentations

* Demographics mapping visualization approach for strategic marketing of programs (similar to Lower Columbia Estuary study approach) - Jacob Rose and teammates from Metro

Diversity Equity and Inclusion round table highlights

* EMSWCD in thick of year-long intensive DEI learning and planning process. Initial draft to be shared in December. Developing 5-year strategic plan concurrently. One example of approach they are using is staff doing readings individually then have "buddy" they meet with regularly to discuss them and how to incorporate what they learn into their work. Buddies change through the year. See book recommendations above.

* Metro Natural Gardening - Jules and Jacob started in May working at Blue Lake Natural Discovery Garden. Starting field trips for mostly Title 1 schools in Reynolds district. Selected schools to reach out to based on demographics data they had mapped visually and could share technique with group in future ACE meeting if desired. Working on rain coats, bussing, language accommodation and other ways to make most accessible. Metro Resource Conservation and Recycling did an equity audit with Center for Diversity and Environment and learned a lot.

* Intertwine just hired a DEI staff person, Katie Gevaris to oversee the cohort program that has 30 orgs this year, the internal board and staff DEI work and outreach to build relationships with community organizations. ED to be hired in a month or two. Organization also pivoting to double down on commitment to raise and channel funds to member orgs. Cohort program supports multiple staff from each org to better ensure success in implementation after the cohort activities as a best practice.

* Tualatin SWCD just added 4 new programs and new staff and are figurin gout how to incorporate DEI work into this expansion. Gathers ideas from big group meetings with Washington County educators, Lower Willamette SWCDs so they do not reinvent the wheel and can support existing efforts.

* SolvePestProblems.org is making great progress with a proof of concept development website, a bilingual advisory committee, smart guidance from a web guru for content framing and design, growing state legislator supporters including Pamela Marsh (Ashland area), Brad Witt (Columbia County) and Michael Dembrow (NE Portland), and recent approval from OSU upper management to include the project in their legislative budget request (this is a massive step forward). The purpose is centered in equity - to engage diverse communities in the project development, address inequities in information access and focus on communities facing disproportionate risks from pests and pesticides, plus the site to be offered in Spanish language.

* Oregon Flora Native Plant Gardening web interface, which is putting the ACE-NW native plant booklet and more online, is moving slowly but surely with a new projected launch in January 1, 2019. It will initially include ~150 plants, be part of an complete migration of their web resources to the Symbiota content management system. Metro providing $50k this fiscal to support core development plus strategy and technology to generate income from nurseries and users to ensure project success into the future. Any ideas from AC members to help them develop more stable funding streams would be appreciated and help protect our investments in this awesome emerging resource.
