Hi again. Sorry I forgot to include Keri’s updates:

From: Keri Handaly [mailto:keri.h...@greshamoregon.gov]

KPTV Water Health Campaign

A lot of regional agencies—including Metro-- (Regional Coalition + the funders of the KOIN TV campaign) have decided to collectively fund a $70K Water health campaign on KPTV starting FY 2019.  We get over 500 spots in a year, plus social media, spots on Good Day Am.  KPTV’s reach includes Marion County and down to Albany, so other agencies in the valley are joining on.

Clean Rivers Coalition

Hired Brink Communications with the Meyer Grant funds.  Project to develop a strategic plan is starting.  The group will host another stakeholder forum that everyone is invited to sometime in spring 2019 to help develop the communication plan.

Columbia Slough Watershed Council

--Give Guide party hosted by Alberta Street Pub and New Belgium Brewery 4pm to 8pm on Dec 13th.

Will be loads of fun!  $10-$20 sliding scale cover to support the council.  Cheap beer, get entered to win a custom New Belgium cruiser bike, fortune telling, plinko live bluegrass-folk from 5 Letter Word and more.

Metro’s 2030 Regional Waste Plan – Equity & Engagement

This plan sets the direction for the region regarding waste management. The plan is fully drafted and is open for public review until Dec. 21st. The plan will go the council in February for approval. During the development process, Metro engaged with 8 community-based organizations and hired an equity work group in order to ensure a diversity of voices. Work groups were designed to allow community members to make up the majority of the discussion. The plan includes a number of action items in five categories (shared prosperity, product design & manufacturing, product use & consumption, product end-of-life management, disaster resilience) that will enable the region to achieve its 2030 vision (see presentation).

You and the general public are invited to make comment on the final draft plan here:  www.oregonmetro.gov/regionalwasteplan.

Round Table Highlights

Tualatin SWCD just launched a new grant program, Tualatin River Environmental Enhancement (TREE) grant. Awards are between $5,000- 100,000 for conservation-related projects. This grant program expands financial assistance options beyond the previously-available Tualatin Watershed Improvement Grant (TWIG) that funds projects up to $5,000. The Backyard Habitat Certification Program is in the development phase for Washington County. Educational opportunities are being structured around this roll-out to provide residents with resources needed to implement projects on their properties (e.g., naturescaping, pollinator habitat, stormwater management).

SOLVE will be launching the Keep It Pretty Rose City initiative in February 2019. This initiative focuses on clean-up efforts in the City of Portland. SOLVE staff have been meeting with neighborhood associations and community-based organizations to establish connections in underserved neighborhoods. The clean-ups will emphasize messages of community health rather than just aesthetics.

Intertwine Alliance hired a new Executive Director, Warren Jimenez, in October.  Strategic planning

is underway; a new strategic plan will be developed by Spring 2019. The organization will be pivoting work to put a renewed focus on securing and channeling regional funding. This year’s equity cohort has ~30 organizations involved. The Green Schoolyards Collective is launching – this is a collective of organizations formed to coordinate efforts in connecting health and nature (i.e. school garden programs, nature play spaces, outdoor classrooms). Also launching Rx Play, an initiative to involve medical professionals in encouraging nature/outdoor play. Intertwine is planning to host a Health & Nature forum in early 2019.

Metro Natural Gardening Program is working on curriculum development for spring programming. A collaborative project with Hacienda CDC and Growing Gardens is underway to provide garden education and revitalize existing garden beds. The Metro Natural Gardening website is being evaluated to determine how resources can be made more accessible in multiple languages.
