Reginald Heber was born in 1783 to a wealthy family in west England. Reginald attended Oxford and won several awards for poetry before he became rector for his father's church. Reginald become Bishop of Calcutta in 1823 and served his people for three years before dying of stroke. "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty," read Reginald Heber's widow. Among her dead husband's papers she found the words of one of the most powerful and beautiful hymns ever written. But years would pass before the lines took their place in worship services around the world.
Our hymnal (Cherubim and Seraphim hymn) is a blessing to us. It brings down the presence of God and lifts the spirit up going. I realized they are more than written words or lyrics. The hymn helps deal with whatever situation I might find myself and is very powerful when sang in the spirit.
Hymns are so powerful, inspirational and Spirit (John 3:6). Behind every C&S Hymns, there is always an encounter or experience. People do not just wake up one day and come up with a hymn, it is prompted by an experience they had or the dimension of God they discovered.
Hymns have been in existence many decades ago, when you sing a hymn with an ordinary heart, it will not work out for you but when your Spirit is attuned and you sing with understanding, then you see the power in hymns, will start to see miracles happening, you will be inspired and the mystery behind the hymn will be revealed.
The C&S hymns teach and catechize, strengthen and sustain faith, comfort and console, preach and proclaim Christ, give a voice to faith, are a response of thanksgiving to God, carry the confession of the faithful, join music with the Word, interpret Scriptures so that we see Christ and His cross always at the center.
Just like the Holy Bible is full of mysteries and can only be revealed to anyone who understands the mystery and knows the Heart of the Lord, so also are hymns as all hymns given to our Fathers then, also got their back up from the Holy Bible, Hymns are not just for the above listed attributes, also for reproof, correction, repentance as they are also the spoken words of the Lord.

This hymn is always sung to the tune for which it was written, LASST UNS ERFREUEN; it is also the original English text for that tune. The tune title comes from its original German text, with which it was paired in a Catholic songbook from Cologne, Ausserlesene Catholische Geistliche Kirchengesänge (1623). This tune has the same opening phrase and similar rhythmic patterns to GENEVAN 68. The modern version of the tune is by Ralph Vaughan Williams, who set it for the English Hymnal in 1906.
Axion estin is also the name of type of icon of the Theotokos, also known as the Eleousa type, after the icon of Karyes (Mount Athos) in front of which, according to tradition, the hymn was revealed in the late 10th century. At Karyes, the icon is currently kept in the Protaton.[2]
The second half of the hymn, beginning with the words, "More honorable than the cherubim..." is the older part of the hymn, and is an Irmos attributed to St. Cosmas the Hymnographer (d. 773). The introduction, "It is truly meet..." was, according to tradition, revealed by the Archangel Gabriel to a monk on Mount Athos, in the late 10th century.
During the Divine Liturgy, Axion Estin is sometimes replaced by another hymn to the Theotokos. These hymns are referred to in the service books as "in place of Axion Estin" (Slavonic: Задосто́йник, Zadostoynik), or by the term "eis to Exairetos", meaning "at the Especially (petition)," from the petition that precedes them calling "especially" for the intercessions of the Theotokos.
Axion Estin is also the name given to the icon of the Theotokos (Mother of God) before which, according to tradition, the hymn was revealed. It stands in the high place of the altar (sanctuary) of the katholikon (main church) of Karyes on Mount Athos.
The Eleousa ("merciful") Icon of the Mother of God, before which the hymn "It Is Truly Meet" was first chanted, was transferred to the katholikon (main church) at Karyes, known as the Protaton. The tile, with the hymn written on it, was taken to Constantinople when St. Nicholas II Chrysoberges was Patriarch (984-996).
