I have noticed while using both RStudio and Quiver (happenapps.com) apps on a 2016 touchbar macbook pro, that typing into the editors makes the touchbar flash. This makes me nervous and I have stopped using these apps in case something blows in the touchbar!

I'm running these on macOS Sierra 10.12.5.

By way of some kind of test... I installed RStudio on Debian 9 inside VirtualBox (macOS host), and the problem does not exist there. So I assume it's something between Ace and Sierra.

Cheers

Could you please check if the same happens on ace.c9.io.
Also with normal textarea, does touchbar change layout when text is selected, or when state of undo/redo commands changes?

OMG sorry for such late reply

Yes, the same thing happens on ace.c9.io - but only in Safari.

I think it may be related to spelling/word suggestions. It appears that Safari offers word/spelling suggestions through touchbar while entering text via the broswer. Firefox appears to not interact with the touchbar at all. Chrome seems to offer access to browser functions (favourites, refresh etc) from touchbar, but does not offer words/spelling through touchbar when typing into the browser.

I'm sorry Harutyun - I'm not really sure what normal textarea is?

okkkkaaayy. Make sense of this if you can!

I thought - there must be some way of disabling spelling suggestions through the touchbar. Went to system preferences -> keyboard -> customise control strip; no option to do so there. Searched internet and found that you can disable spelling suggestions in Apple's own Notes app. Thought, why not? Went there, did it, came back to Quiverapp and the problem is solved. I’m not getting word suggestions - but I couldnt care less; the flashing has stopped. Same is true of RStudio and ace in the browser. This is a repeatable “solution” even after reboot.

I only wish I’d figured this out earlier!

Cheers
