Hi,

A recent file audit reported some corrupt files.

It's not clear to me what to do.

On the report webpage I have three choices:

1) Audit Corrupt Files
2) log specific files
3) remove specific files

Is the handling of corrupt files documented?

Sorry, if I missed it, I read the three PDF's describing the design
and implementation.

By the way, the corrupt files (xml) contain metadata and the metadata
was updated, so the files aren't corrupt in the sense of bad disk,
accidently overwritten, etc.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron,
The documentation is a bit lacking on how to handle. Here's what each item
means:

Audit Corrupt Files - re-read any file that's missing/corrupt. This is
useful in case there were intermittent system problems during the last
audit.
Log - View log entries for that item
Remove - Remove item from monitoring. If the item still exists on the system
any subsequent audits will rediscover and register the item. If there are
types of files you want to ignore, you can create a filter under collection
settings.

Hope this helps,
-Mike

Hi,

Thanks,

Ron

Thanks Mike.

I reread the "An Implementation ..." PDF and this time saw "Removal
and re-registration ...if a new version ... added."
So, it was documented and I missed it.

In the "ACE: a Novel ..." PDF, the abstract says "verify the integrity
of every version ... as well as link the current version to the
original form"

If I remove an object from the audit, so that the next audit adds the
new version, is the "link to the original form" kept?
Is the link simply based on the path, which doesn't change?

Thanks,

Ron

That was implemented in an early prototype and hasn't been added to the
current audit manager. We don't track the original token/hash after an item
has been removed. What will remain though is a set of log entries showing
the previous registration, token issuing, deletion and re-add.

Hi Mike,

One more question.

I need to remove 535 files.
Is there a bulk way to do that?

Thanks,

Ron

Not unless they are all in the same directory. If they are, you can delete
the parent directory by browsing to it and all child items will be removed.
I just tasked someone today w/ expanding the delete functionality so it
should be incorporated shortly.
