This afternoon a faculty member, myself, and a student all are getting this error when trying to use lockdown browser, all within the following systems: the canvas app on ipad, the lockdown browser on Mac, the chrome browser on Mac, the canvas webpage on ipad, and the lockdown browser on ipad. I've tried updating, restarting googling, searching canvas and respondus support and talking to our other IT members.

Does anyone know what this "error robot" is trying to tell us (see attached) but I am unable to find a rhyme or reason behind the error. error robot on lockdown browser student view from administrator access

I'm a Canvas admin at my school, and we saw this error today. One group of students took a quiz using New Quizzes and Respondus LDB early in the day with no issues. A second set of students tried to take the same exact quiz later in the day, and everyone got the error robot. I added myself to the course as a student to test it myself, and I got the error robot also.

We tried the following: updating LDB, starting from Canvas, starting from LDB, duplicating the quiz. We got the error robot every time. I also double-checked the settings, and it everything was set up correctly.

We were having the same issue this morning. I was able to test and got LDB to work in New Quizzes in Firefox and Chrome in Private browser window. It worked in Safari and Edge in regular browser windows. I suspect cross-site tracking or something in the browser.

Respondus LockDown Browser is a customized browser that increases the security of online testing in the Canvas Learning Managment System. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser to access an assessment, they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. Students are locked into an assessment until it is submitted for grading.

Respondus 4.0 and Blackboard both allow the instructor to create/originate tests within their respective applications. Where Respondus 4.0 excels is in it's ability to automatically convert properly formatted word documents into an online exam format. The Blackboard test creation system is better when creating new individual questions. Mostly because using the Respondus test manager requires the additional step of uploading the exam into the Blackboard course shell. Once uploaded to the Blackboard shell the exam is indistinguishable from ones created in the Blackboard Test Canvas. If not done when uploading from Respondus 4.0, the exams can then be deployed in the course for students to take.

Regardless from where a test originates, when it is deployed in a course it can have Respondus Lockdown Browser enabled to work with it. You can set or reset enablement by going to the Control Panel, expanding Course Tools, and selecting the Respondus Lockdown Browser option. On your first visit you will be presented with some information on how the Browser works, you can then select Continue to LockDown Browser to see the list of all deployed exams in your class. You can then modify the setting of the test selected to require the LockDown Browser or not. This process will automatically add "MUST BE TAKEN WITH RESPONDUS LOCKDOWN BROWSER" to the test title.

Note: This name will carry over if a course is copied, but the setting to require Respondus doesn't always. You will either need to go through the process to enable the LockDown Browser for the exam again in the new class or click the Fix It button in the Course Tool for the exam to be properly registered in the new class.

When Respondus LockDown Browser is enabled, a student will not be allowed to take the test without it. They will get stuck at a page in Blackboard asking for a password to start the exam. The student must switch browsers to the Respondus lockdown browser, then login to Blackboard and navigate back to the test to start. At that point it should allow the student to start the exam without requiring a password.

Do not use wireless connections when taking tests in Respondus LockDown Browser. Students should use a computer that is connected to the Internet through a high-speed wired connection. It is not recommended that the student take tests on a computer with a wireless connection to the Internet because it is very possible that they will lose connection during their test.

This course requires the use of LockDown Browser for online exams. Watch this short video to get a basic understanding of LockDown Browser and the optional webcam feature (which may be required for some exams).

To ensure that your first exam using LockDown Browser runs smoothly! Have students take an ungraded practice quiz that requires the use of LockDown Browser, before the graded exam occurs. There should be one for you to use located in the Authentication and Proctoring for Academic Integrity content area of your classes.

If you are also using Monitor, Direct students to use the Help Center prior to their first exam. With LockDown Browser open, log into the course and select the Help Center button the toolbar. From there, run the Webcam Check and the System Check to make sure everything is working properly. It would also be a good idea from them to run an internet speed test to check that they do have a good connection before starting the exam. If a problem is indicated, students can search for a solution in the Knowledge Base. Troubleshooting information, like the date, time, Blackboard ID, and location of the test in the class, can also be emailed to the ITS helpdesk to ensure that students have an easier time if they need any support starting their exam.

Respondus is a suite of assessment applications for education, training, and certification markets. An education company at its core, Respondus partners with universities around the world to provide a suite of tools to further education assessment and exam management. When Respondus is mentioned, it could refer to a few different products, so below you'll find resources and guides on understanding and getting started with each.

Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down a student's testing environment so that they are unable to navigate to other web pages or open other applications on the device they are taking the exam on.

Although Respondus LockDown Browser does not fully protect against academic dishonesty on its own, it may be useful to you if you would like the following features during a Canvas Quiz:

It's recommended that you and your students practice with a quiz/exam worth zero points some time ahead of your first graded quiz with Respondus LockDown Browser. This is due to each student needing to download, install, and log in to the LockDown Browser software.

The LockDown Browser can be downloaded directly on UIW's dedicated Respondus page, which you may copy and post within your course. Students will only need to download it once and more educational and helpful resources on using the program can be found on the Available Software for Students page.

Respondus maintains a knowledge base article that provides the latest details on how LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor work with various assistive technologies. If you have questions, please email access...@respondus.com

The Respondus 4.0 Exam Creator (sometimes called Respondus 4.0 or R4EC) is a powerful software tool for converting existing quizzes and exams in common formats (Word documents, .csv, .txt, .rtf) to Canvas quizzes.

Please note that the exam creator only works with Classic Quizzes at this point. If you need to create a 'New' Quiz in Canvas, first export your exam to create a Classic Quiz, then use the migration tool in Quizzes to convert your new Classic Quiz into a 'New' Quiz.

If you have paper or legacy assessments that you'd like to easily get into a Canvas format, Respondus 4.0 Exam Creator (sometimes called Respondus 4.0) is available. Respondus 4.0 is only available on Windows devices, but it allows instructors to create assessments entirely offline in familiar environments and import them into Canvas with ease.

Respondus Monitor is a video-monitoring service that works alongside Respondus LockDown Browser. After a student takes an exam, instructors can review exam footage from the student's device to check for any suspect behavior, ensuring academic integrity to the fullest.
