‘Hand in hand’ - A sustainability initiative by Global Compact Network and CIMA Sri Lanka

In modern times, sustaining values of caring for the environment and for fellow human beings are becoming challenged due to profit oriented corporate objectives, increased competition among individuals and organisations as well as limited natural resource availability. Values related to acting in harmony with the environment and an economy in a socially acceptable, sustainable manner need to be inculcated in students at a young age prior to corporate exposure. This will result in grooming more socially responsible business leaders who will develop businesses that co-exists with society and nature.

In keeping with the above, we are delighted to inform you that Global Compact Network Sri Lanka and CIMA launched a Sustainability Initiative; ‘Hand in hand’, via a competition.  The competition aims to engage students and their educational institutions in understanding the importance of social, economic and environmental development.

Applicants will have to identify and describe how a sustainability project resulted in economic, social and environmental development and how such impact will be sustained considering key stakeholders involved. CIMA tuition colleges, international schools, local and foreign-affiliated universities can participate in the competition by submitting their applications by 30 September. Short-listed applicants will be expected to present their projects at a judging process conducted by the Global Compact Network Sri Lanka. If applicable, candidates may be required to conduct an on-site presentation, which would guide Global Compact judges about the project. Each team would answer questions at the end of the visit. For transparency, judges will also interview community members involved in the project, if necessary. The length of the presentation and Q/A session would be approximately 15 minutes each.

The winning team from each category will receive the title of, winner/ runner up of the ‘Hand in hand’ Sustainability Initiative by Global Compact Network Sri Lanka and CIMA Sri Lanka at the CIMA business case awards night amidst a gathering of over 200 corporate representatives. A trophy, as well as gift certificates from sponsor institutions will also be awarded to the winners.

The achievement will be publicized in newspapers, websites, CIMA publications and the press. Winners will have the opportunity to obtain recommendation letters for further studies/employment.

Please contact fuhum...@cimaglobal.com for any clarifications. The application form is attached herewith.
