ok so in the movie tamasha, deepika refers to herself as mona darling, claiming that she is working with teja and ranbir calls himself don, claiming that he is also working with teja. now mona darling and teja are characters from this movie: zanjeer starring amitabh bachchan. this would lead most to believe that the don that ranbir is referring to is the one from the amitabh bachchan movie. but the thing is, there is no character named teja in the 1978 don universe. teja only exists in the 2007 don universe starring srk. so basically, in tamasha, they are referring to two different characters named teja from two different movies. useless info but anyways in regards to this film, i love sher khan he is very cool he is legend.

However, amitabh bachchan's character and his tough and no non sense performance really carries this film. Then there's Pran - whose character and the relationship between him and Vijay is endearing to say the least. Even Jaya comes into play in the climax through a knife throwing!

Big B goes Full-Tilt Fascist as an above-the-law cop who is so tough, so righteous, and so cocky that he savagely beats one crime boss until they're BFFs, marries the girl of his dreams, and steals a bread stick from an even bigger crime boss. Because "in this country, there are very few tigers left." Come for the He-Man heroics, stay for the sweaty Jungian PTSD flashbacks.

Elements of Zanjeer seem comically dated now - the zooming camera, the clunky cuts, the over-the-top background music and of course the outlandish outfits, especially the feathers and sequins preferred by Mona the vamp, played by a furiously plump Bindu. And yet, Prakash Mehra's 1973 film about a psychologically damaged cop has much to offer.

Above all, there is the 30-year-old Amitabh Bachchan as the lean, mean fighting machine Inspector Vijay whose childhood demons - he witnessed the murder of his parents - gnaw at his insides. Vijay seems to carry an existential weight upon his shoulders. His bleak eyes reveal his bruised soul. His foil is arch-villain Teja, played by Ajit in a golden wig.

Even after her unfortunate middleclass domesticity makeunder, Jaya and Amitabh have such palpable chemistry I couldn't fully ship Vijay/Sher Khan (who had the more provocative item number, Bindu or Pran?).

It remains easier to stomach a Salim-Javed '70s national integration vigilante cop revenge movie than even the trailer for a Rohit Shetty film. Probably helps to have gangly young Amitabh kicking in '70s trousers that seem designed neither for his height nor for kicking stuff/people: consistently one of my favourite sights from this decade in cinema.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari opened up about a conversation with Amitabh Bachchan about his films Zanjeer (1973) and Anand (1971). He was speaking at News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2024, when the minister recalled watching his 'favourite' actor Amitabh's films 'three to four times'. He also admitted to not watching any of Alia Bhatt, Kiara Advani and Taapsee Pannu's films. Also read: Amitabh Bachchan reveals the only two actors he considers his idols

During the interaction, the minister was shown photos of Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Vikrant Massey, and asked to pick his favourite. "Yeh log ache hai, (last film) Ranveer ki dekhi thi meine, Bajirao Mastani (These actors are all good. The last film I saw was the 2015 Ranveer Singh-starrer Bajirao Mastani)." When asked to choose between Alia Bhatt, Kiara Advani and Taapsee Pannu, he said, "Inn teeno ki bhi filmein meine nahi dekhi (I have not watched their movies)."

Anand is a 1971 cult Hindi film co-written and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, with dialogues written by Gulzar. It stars Rajesh Khanna in the lead role, with a supporting cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Sumita Sanyal, Ramesh Deo and Seema Deo. The film won several awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Film in 1972.

Zanjeer is a 1973 Hindi action film directed and produced by Prakash Mehra from a screenplay written by Salim-Javed. It stars Amitabh, Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit Khan and Bindu. Zanjeer was the first of many collaborations between Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) and Amitabh, who worked together in blockbusters such as Deewaar (1975) and Sholay (1975).
