Hello there,

I am a professional Blind Dj, looking to switch from Djay Pro on the mac to windows and possibly to VDJ. I installed both v. 8.1 en 2021, the latest beta of the accessibility tool 210330, and LoopBe1 for the midi port. When starting for the first time hooking up my pioneer XDJ aero controller, a 30 day trial was activated for it , and al does work fine for the first 4 or 5 minutes or so. Then, the midi port gives an error "MIDI Feedback! (Shortcut). Error: Do not connect MIDI OUT and MIDI IN of LoopBe1 within a single Application!", after which the accessibility tool freeses and has to be removed forcefully from the task manager. Looking into LoopBe1settings, it appears to be muted. After unmuting,VDJ and the tool can be restarted and work anew for about 5 minutes, after which the story repeats itself. For now, I seemed to have more luck with LoopMidi, in which the problem didn't seem to have appeared yet, but I still found it worth reporting it.

Also I wanted to express my gratitude for all work that has been done here, as after such a long time, it seems there is now finally an option to play on windows.

Thank you so much and I hope this helps ...

Kind regards,

Anthony

Hi Anthony.

first welcome aboard.

Thanks for reminding of this issue. I did know about it, and was going
to put a warning on the website, so that for users with controllers, we
recommend using the loopmidi software instead of loopbe1, as controllers
do send a lot of bulk similar midi data (such as the volume slider),
which can cause loopbe1 to think it is receiving the same midi data and
make it mute itself.

It doesn't seem to effect many users that are using the keyboard,
perhaps the occasional mute, but switching quickly back to the mallmuzik
speech software and pressing 'M' will bring up the loopbe1 setting panel
to uncheck the mute checkbox.

The reason the mallMuzik software freezes is because if the midi port is
muted, it will never receive the disconnect midi command from virtual
DJ, and will sit waiting for this midi command.

It looks like loopbe1 only analyses the first few bytes of the midi
header data, to detect feedback, and this is what might be the issue, I
will try to contact the developer about it, although it has not been
updated since about 2016.

I do have some workarounds in mind, which I will have a play with.

The reason I still have loopbe1 as an option, is that it seems more
responsive than loopmidi, (Probably because like I previously mentioned,
it probably only checks the first part of the midi header, instead of
the whole midi message, for feedback protection), but i'm only guessing
here lol.

Just a side note, you say you are coming from a Mac, have you tried the
Speech software with Virtual DJ on MacOs?.

All the best, and sorry for the headache you got, for me not putting
this information up sooner, and thank you for reminding me.

Pete

Hello there,

Thank you so very much for your reply and your thorough explanation, that makes total sense. I am in fact considering switching to vdj because I want to switch to windows, and not the other way around. In fact, djay pro is the only thing that is actually keeping me on mac. So hence I have not invested in trying the mac version of your tool.

Anyway , I still have to tinker around with it a lot to find a workflow that is doable to work with professionally.  It might be I will be back in here  begging for help if I really get stuck, which will probably happen.

I want to thank you again for your warm welcome  and am looking forward to continue experimentingin the next few days.
Kind regards,

Anthony

Hi Anthon.

A couple of tips if your using a controller.
when in the speech software (before starting VDJ), press 'V'. this will
switch to less verbosity, which makes file browsing on the controller
better. Also when in VDJ, there is a controller mode, to switch it on
press 'F9'. this will stop the software announcing the deck selection
when using a controller.

hope these help

In response to your comment about keyboard use, I'm using LoopBe1 just with a keyboard and it generally works fine, except for the Shift+Delete and other commands to reset the BPM to current. I'm guessing it sends too many commands at once which causes it to mute itself. I can try the other midi driver to see if it works better, but thought you may want to know.

Dear all,

I'm just trying to get use to virtual DJ. I'm really enjoying organizing my tracks and having them played as I want it. But the audio midi normally stops after a short while. At least about 20Minutes or so. How can I unmute the loobe1midi speech to continue interacting with the VDJ software? Or, is there a way to  permanently unmute? Thanks as I await a response.

Hi, have you tried using loop midi instead of loop B1?
Uninstall B1 and try using loop midi, then the muting should not happen.
Greetings

PS Pete would it be possible to change the mallmuzik installer so that after a new installation it suggests installing loop midi first instead of loop B1? All new users have to go through the B1 muting problem because this virtual port is suggested first and I think everyone instinctively confirms it. If the installer suggests a loop midi first, fewer people will encounter B1 muting.
Best regards.
