fully Leveraging GPU for Stem Separation

I recently bought a new laptop with a fancy Nvidia GPU. However, despite enabling GPU access for VDJ through my computer settings, I suspect that Virtual DJ is still only using the processor when preparing stems. Stem separation is fast, but on the order of ~20 seconds for a 3-4 minute track rather than the quicker GPU speeds I've been led to expect. I see these related settings in the MallMuzik settings page:

fixStems: don't use GPU, lower priority, or prepare with reduced quality. There is no "off" setting here; does this setting only become enabled if a GPU is not found?

Use Low Power GPU: default, low power, and high power. I set this to high power

Is this a case where I need to bypass MallMuzik for now and go directly to the settings.xml? Does MM overwrite these settings if I alter them in the xml and subsequently open the settings gui? Is there something else I should be doing to enable, test, or verify GPU stem separation?

Thanks for any insights you all have. Happy mixing in 2026!

Hi, you can change the settings in the settings.xml file. Remember to close MM while doing this, and after saving the changes to the file, MallMuzik will start, loading the settings saved in settings.xml.

If VDJ detects your GPU, you should see the appropriate settings in the mallmuzik\settings\VDJ options, such as "Use GPU instead of CPU for STEMS preparation."

Check the <performance> section in settings.xml, you might find something there, for example:

<stemsGPU>Automatic</stemsGPU>
Change the setting to Yes instead of automatic.

Stemsfix applies to older computers that aren't as powerful as yours, so it's best to set it to "Off."

Use low GPU power is more about rendering the skin on your computer's screen than preparing STEMS.

As a reminder, you can listen to the F1 help for each VDJ option in MallMuzik\settings. You can also select all tracks and then use the Ctrl+Alt+e shortcut and confirm with "e" to save the prepared STEMS.

Best regards, Zenek
