QWR’s new Post Wildfire Recovery Strike Team program is posting this article since there are a lot of calls coming
in from trail enthusiasts who want to help with post-fire recovery volunteer efforts. Many are new
to federal land volunteer efforts and this article highlights the need to get Red Cross First Aid training
BEFORE a volunteer can take the FS Chainsaw course.
Also included is a story about post-wildfire emotional trauma.

Don, I have found that some Forests will let people take the saw class without a first Aid/CPR, but they will not issue the saw card until the first aid card has been submitted.
Check with the individual Forest
It makes it easier as the saw classes are very limited in schedule, but First Aid/CPR can be done almost anytime/anywhere.
Also there is normally an overlap as saw cards are renewed on a 3 year basis, first aid/CPR is two years

Rick,
10-4. However, it is best to get the first aid card cert. BEFORE the saw class.
