We're thinking about ways of restricting how our team log their team. Accelo lets you log your time pretty much anywhere, which is great for getting your timesheets done quickly! But we have trouble with time being logged directly against a project rather than against a specific task in a project. This means that budget is being consumed, but individual tasks (and therefore milestones) look like there is still time available. This happens a lot when it comes to converting meetings in Accelo in timesheeting. We've also found numerous cases recently where billable time has been logged as zero rated because there is no rate set at the project level, but only against each milestone and task - meaning a timesheet entry looks billable (cause it has the green $ flagged) but the customer's budget is not being consumed. We're wanting to know if there is a clever way of being able to stop people logging time on projects to anything other than tasks. Any smart people with ideas out there?

Hi Peter,

The best way we found to do this was to show our team how EASY it is to simply to use the Timer function directly from Tasks either using the Daily Timesheet or from a Task window in a Project. Rather than using Log Time or Activities

Thanks Martin. It's definitely easy, I agree. I guess we're still battling the behaviour change from "doing your timesheet" to running timers while you work. It takes a lot of clean up admin to get people's time into the right place. But it seems the only option here is behaviour change so we'll need to stick at it.

Hi Peter
I definitely think it's worth persisting with the behaviour change. Also coming from the "doing your Time sheet " it took some of our team at least 12 months to make the change. However with new hires, we include Accelo best practices in our on boarding process and we get 100% correct time logging from day one.

Regards
Martin

Hi Peter,

Do your team plan their daily work from the taskboard? or maybe the schedule view?
We have our team working from the taskboard mostly (some from the schedule, but this also shows the tasks) and this really helps. as like Martin showed it would be more hassle for them to log their time manually than press the small time button on their tasks to log it.

Regards
Tom

I really like the point you make that it would be more hassle logging time manually rather than just working from the taskboard. I think the consensus is that this is where we should focus. Thanks for your help Tom :-)

No problem at all Peter.

Something else that I just though of is that some of our team don't like the timer as they feel uneasy with those numbers growing at the bottom of the screen and feel like it adds pressure if they are working to deadlines already. So I tought them just to start the auto timer but to then press the hide button. It carries on in the background and when they are done or need to move to something else they just navigate to Time and then Show Timer to bring it back.

It might help if you get any push back for that.
Tom
