Dear Users,

I am a student from the Netherlands who is interested in using Accelerad (New user level beginner). A professor at my university who is calculating daylight factors told me the following: When he calculates a space using Radiance, he gets a different result for the daylight factor compared to when he uses Accelerad. The results from Accelerad are lower than those from Radiance. How can this be, given that Accelerad uses the core of Radiance, or is it due to the GPU? I would like to know more about this and hopefully, you have an answer.

Kind regards, Rishano. P.S. Sorry if my English is not entirely correct.

Hi Rishano,

You don't provide enough information to determine why the results are different. We would need to look at the model, simulation settings, and results in detail to understand what's going on. Also, please take a look at the Accelerad documentation, which outlines a number of differences between Accelerad and Radiance.

Hallo Nathaniel,

Thank you for the quick response. I will ask my teacher for additional information about the calculations. I am also interested in Accelerad and have a few questions:

1. Which calculation cores does Accelerad use from Radiance, or is Accelerad the same as Radiance?

2. Does Accelerad use Radiosity?

3. Are there any differences between Radiance and Accelerad, if so, what are they?

4. Is there any documentation available on Accelerad where I can find this information?

I hope I am not bothering you with these questions and I look forward to your answer.

Hi Rishano,

Most of the answers you are looking for are available on the Accelerad website that I linked in my previous response. In short, Accelerad is an implementation of Radiance that uses GPU-accelerated ray tracing. Because Accelerad is based on Radiance, it does not use radiosity.
