Dear Member

In the recent past most of us have received letters from three organizations namely,  Institution of Engineers, ECI and CEAI requesting individual members to register as Professional Engineers. While Institution of Engineers (India) invite professionals to become corporate members and there by Chartered Engineers, Consulting Engineers Association of India (CEAI) calls for registration of engineers in its National Register of Engineers. ECI-Engineering Council of India, of which, ACCE (I) is a Founding Member, has also called for Registration of Professional Engineers. Further, in the first week of March, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced its proposed bill for establishing National Council of Professional Engineers (NCPE) and that the draft bill is under preparation.

Under these circumstances there is bound to be an element of confusion as to with which organization we register with. To arrive at consensus opinion, this issue will be taken up for discussion in the upcoming Governing Council meet on 29th April, at Bangalore and the outcome of the GC decision will be conveyed to all for further needful action from their end. There could be several possibilities.

One of the possibilities could be ACCE (I) establish its National Committee to screen and recommend the entitlement of applicants to ECI as Professional Engineers. Secondly, we leave it to the individual member to take a call to register with any or all the three organizations based on the inputs received from these registering entities. Registration with NDMA under NCPE will attain its importance in future if and after their proposed bill is accepted.

Meanwhile, ACCE (I) has sent a letter to ECI suggesting extension of last date of Registration with discounted fee structure for ACCE(I) members, from 31st March to 30th June and their reply awaited.

Regards
