Interesting. Of course the point has been made that we don't dehumanise people we humiliate them. For example making somebody eat off the floor would be an act of humiliation but that wouldn't bother an animal. It is the very fact that we treat others as humans that have needs sentiments and can be humiliated that we are able to do what we do
here also is a paper that I thought was fascinating in some of its ways of thinking about cruelty and the dissociation from suffering we cause
