I've posted this to the main ACT Listserv and I'm reposting it here:

Dear list,

As the interest in compassion has been continuously growing within our community and the Compassion SIG seems to be one of the largest ACBS sub-communities I allow myself to post this to the entire listserv.

There is a growing number of compassion-related training events worldwide and what is even more important, there is a growing number of events that approach compassion from the CBS theoretical and philosophical perspective. It seems that October is on its way to become THE compassion-focused month for the European CBS community.

During the Nordic ACBS Forum in Tampere, Finland (15th – 17th October) two out of three delivered workshops will present a CBS-based approach to (self)compassion: (1) Jason Luoma will be presenting workshop ”Stigma, shame and compassion” and (2) I’m going to present workshop ”Art and science of compassion in psychotherapy”. All conference workshops will be delivered in English.

From October 23th to 24th, in Berlin, Jason Luoma will be presenting workshop ”ACT with Compassion: Working with Highly Self-Critical and Shame-Prone Clients using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy”. The workshop will be delivered in English.

As for nonACT-related events the most significant is the 4th International Conference On Compassion Focused Therapy, organized in Manchester, October 21st – 23rd, by The Compassionate Mind Foundation.

There are also compassion-related events organized in other parts of the world and within various theoretical/philosophical traditions as well as various on-line events.

To those interested in updated information about compassion-related events that may be especially relevant to our community I would recommend the Events page at the ACT With Compassion website. You can also find useful therapist resources, literature list and research news there.

For those interested in Compassion Focused Therapy (by Paul Gilbert) specifically I would recommend The Compassionate MindFoundation website.

Kind regards,

Stan Malicki

Thanks, Stan, for posting theses announcements.

Also, thanks, Steve, for letting the group know about the Bay Area CFT training on October 31st and November 1st.
It will be very CBS-friendly, and will introduce key CFT terms and compassionate imagery training in ways that make sense to ACT practitioners.

Here is the registration information:

Very happy to be visiting California and seeing friends and colleagues for intensive training.

Also, very happy to see so much compassion training taking place within ACBS!!

Sending Good Wishes, Dennis
