Subject: Fwd: Invitation to recommend participants to ARROW's Disability and SRHR Training
Dear friendsKindly consider below invitation from ARROW. I recall in the past they conducted a similar training with ADF in Hanoi. However, most of the ARROW staff at that time have changed. Please support & identify suitable participants from your networks to attend. The deadline of 10 Jul may be extended for the 2nd training from 12 to 14 Aug 2024 as details are being finalised..With warmest regards,
Lim Puay Tiak (PT) 林培德Chairman, ASEAN Disability Forum (ADF) &Honorary Treasurer, International Disability Alliance (IDA)Mobile / Whats App: +65 9662 3328Skype: PT Lim---------- Forwarded message ---------Greetings from ARROW! I hope this email finds you well.ARROW is organizing two ARROW training workshops on Disability x SRHR to build the capacity of young persons from both movements on the intersections between gender, disability, sexual and reproductive health and rights while diving deep into the double marginalization faced by women and young persons with disabilities. Hence we are writing to our partners in Asia and Pacific specifically to invite potential applicants. Following is the background of the training as well:
ARROW's Disability and SRHR training-
ARROW is hoping to conduct the residential training on Disability and Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for persons living with disabilities as well as for selected youth from non-profit civil society organisations working around various social issues with a disability intersection, specifically SRHR and based in Southeast Asia.
Persons living with disabilities face sexual and reproductive health issues in a more acute manner due to lack of social attention, legal protection, understanding and support. Basic knowledge around sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and services are often inaccessible to persons with disabilities for many reasons, including physical barriers, the lack of disability-friendly education or health systems, societal stigma, and a lack of recognition of their sexuality. However, the lived experiences, rights and priorities of persons with disabilities can be invisible in SRHRJ movements as well, making it crucial for shared capacity strengthening on both disability justice and SRHRJ for all activists, especially youth.
ARROW's training on Disability and SRHR will focus on areas including Gender, Sex, Sexuality, Power and Privilege as well as Discrimination, Disability Justice and its connection with Gender, SRHR and will be conducted following disability friendly practices and principles.
There will be two trainings with participants from two sets of countries:
1) 6-8 August 2024, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
For participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines
2) 12-14 August 2024, in TBC
For participants from Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, LaosThe training will facilitated by an expert on Disability Rights. ARROW will be arranging all logistical requirements including flights, accommodation and food for the course of the three-day training for participants and any caretakers required for their assistance based on the accessibility needs of each participant. Participants will also be provided a transport allowance to cover transport to and from the airport in their home countries and in the training country.
Requesting you to kindly nominate and share this call for application to individuals between the age of 18-35 who are living with disabilities or individuals working on SRHR with an interest in the intersection of disability rights, or an active and upcoming member of your organisation/network/collective who can benefit from our training on Disability and SRHR.
Please bear in mind that due to restrictions on resources, the training will be conducted in English only, therefore please ensure that your nominees are able to understand and converse in English. We are able to provide Sign Language interpretation services for Deaf or hearing-impaired participants.
Please share the following link to the application form to the nominated candidates from your organisation/collective/network. Applications will close on the 10th July 2024.
