to top DEGREE COURSE IN FILM DIRECTING
This is a three year course leading to a Degree of Bachelor in Film Directing. The main emphasis on the course is on the art of film and narrative, and the chief task is seen as being to train professional, independent film directors and film makers who can express themselves in a film language of their own, in feature films as well as documentary.
Making films is a collaborative process in which cooperation is of the highest priority. Students are given every chance to develop their own independent, critical powers, and also to find their own personal, questioning stance in relation to research and development in the arts of filmic narrative. The training makes no distinction between feature and documentary films, but rather places the emphasis on visual narration.
During the first year teaching concentrates on the basic methodologies of film and moving pictures, as well as filmic representation and imaging in both feature and documentary films. In the second year the training is of a more free-ranging kind, with advanced experience of film narration through both a documentary and a feature film project. Studies in the third year are conducted in increasingly individualised ways and directed towards working life and production. As part of their advanced studies students complete a project of their own choice.
During the whole period of education practical work is varied with theoretical subjects, such as studies in film history, film analysis and dramatics, as well as policy matters concerning film, culture and the media.
The course in film directing works closely together with courses in acting within the School of Theatre as well as having close relations with courses in composition in the School of Music and Musicology.
Artistic Director for the Course: Goran du Rees, Professor.
Final date for applications: 15 January, 2005.
RS' DEGREE IN PHOTOGRAPHY
The course allows students to develop their own language of expression in photography, to acquire advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the areas of contemporary photography and related media, as well as building up active responses to the aesthetic and philosophical theories of the 20th century.
The first year is devoted to studies in 20th century aesthetic theory, philosophy and art criticism. At the same time students work om minor projects of their own and take part in teaching conducted by guest lectures. During the second year students work on their own major projects and complete a thesis-type essay. In both the years of the course there is training in teaching methods, in the form of both tutorial and lecturing techniques.
Each year seven students are accepted for the Master's course.
Artistic Director for the Course: Annika Karlsson Rixon.
Final date for applications: 2 May, 2004
THE SCHOOL OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILM - AIMS
The School (HFF) is a state-financed department of Art within the Fine Arts faculty of Goteborg University - the largest Fine Arts faculty in Scandinavia. It is a spearhead for photography and film. The general policy for the work of the School favours free, individual creativity.
The aim of the School is to raise the quality and increase the breadth and diversity of photography and film in Sweden.
This means that the development of photographic and filmic means of expression is to be given priority. Wide variation is encouraged so that the work is able to comprise advanced artistic experiment as well as everyday projects in contact with the prevailing reality of the media. Teaching is conducted in an investigative and critical spirit, against the background of photographic and film traditions, with an openness to all the new possibilities offerred by technological development and new theories. The School sees it as its task to acknowledge and deepen the artistic aspirations of its students. The students are to acquire knowledge and skills that will make them an asset to cultural lige and the labor market. The School seeks to stimulate the unexpected and the unconventional, and by doing so to influence public thinking and discussion, to broaden cultural views and attitudes towards photography and film.

Niclas Lofgren.
internationell publik, Miriam Backstrom, Lars Tunbjork, JH Engstrom,
Maria Miesenberger och Annica Karlsson Rixon. De flesta har dock
