Hello! Just a few notes regarding this years art that is on display in the Smithsonian Institute Buildings. You will find easily in the National Gallery of Art in Exhibit Hall 41 & 42 the following pieces. Mississippi Boatman, Watson & Shark, & Lackawanna Valley. We unexpectedly found the painting “Visit from Old Mistress” there too. Lots of Matthew Brady work in the Nat. Gallery of Art, numerous Ambrotype photos on display, We also found the “Bible Quilt” on display in the Air and Space Museum in the “Ruby” Slipper exhibit in the far left end of the building. The reason the “Bible Quilt” is on display in the Air and Space Museum is because the American Art Museum is closed for Renovations for a year at this time and there is a traveling exhibit over in the Air and Space featuring items from the American Museum. A trip to the Smithsonian is worth the effort as many students enjoyed the chance to see the work of masters. Even if our art piece was not on display, we still found other works of the many artist involved in the Academic Decathlon focus area. The kids really enjoyed the Shark because of the commanding size of the painting. Seeing the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, WWII and Korean Memorial and the new Air Force Memorial near the Pentagon is awesome.
A trip worth your effort no matter how many miles you have to go to reach that destination. Martha Nastase
