Multiple local organizations are teaming up to bring you this year’s biggest and best Earth Day Celebration!  Join us for keynote speaker, author Connie Mutel,as she talks about her new book A Watershed Year: Anatomy of the Iowa Floods of 2008.  There will also be demonstrations on rain gardens and rain barrels and a special interactive program called “Tap or Bottle? We’re talking water”! Learn how trees make a difference in your energy bill and in storm water management.  There will be live music including Reunion, the Deep Dish Divas and Junk Rhythm.  Local organizations and businesses will be on hand with the latest and greatest eco-related information.  Learn about everything from renewable energy to recycling.  There will be free interactive activities for the whole family.  Personalize your own flower pots for spring and even purchase native plants for your yard or garden!  Reptiles and amphibians will be on hand to see and hold.  Take part in producing a Tibetan style Earth flag and learn how to make just about anything out of ‘plarn’ – plastic yarn made out of plastic bags.  Door prizes will be given out throughout the event and include four different overnight get-a-ways, gift certificates and more! This free event is open to the public and the first 100 people in the door receive a free reusable bag!

Participating Organizations include:

Alliant Energy, Cedar Rapids Citizens for Urban Chickens, Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Cedar Wapsie Sierra Club, East Central Iowa Council of Governments, Frontier Natural Foods Co-op, Green Iowa AmeriCorps, Indian Creek Nature Center, Ion Exchange, Iowa Green Team, Iowa Renewable Energy Association, Iowa Valley Resource Conservation & Development, Linn County Conservation, Linn County Soil & Water Conservation District, Mathew 25, NRG-360, Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, Prairiewoods Knitters & Stitchers, Trees Forever and Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Center and more!!
