Prairie Planting and Seed Swap

Greetings, fellow nature-lovers.
Backyard Abundance and Willowwind School are hosting a prairie planting workshop and seed swap. Snacks will be provided.
Date: Sunday, November 21
Presentation and Seeding: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Seed Swap: 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Location: Willowwind School, 930 Dover Street, Iowa City
At this fun workshop, we will seed a large area of prairie at Willowwind School. You will learn about:
· The environmental value of prairie and rain gardens
· Easily and organically preparing and seeding a new prairie bed
· Caring for a prairie
Elementary students will present information they learned while researching and selecting plants for the prairie. Please bring your children and they will learn from fellow children.
Seed Swap
A prairie plant seed swap will be held at the end of the seeding.
Handouts
You will receive handouts and catalogs about establishing and caring for prairies.
Items to Bring
While hands-on activities are optional, your learning will be enhanced if you bring a steel rake, gloves, and jeans for implementing the prairie. If you would like to take home prairie seeds, bring seeds to share and small bags.
Registration
A $10 donation to Backyard Abundance is requested, but not required. You can register online or pay at the event.
